DIY Glitter Shoes!
What you’ll need: -Any pair of flats, canvas shoes, or loafers -Mod Podge (available at craft stores) -Glitter (gold, silver, etc.) -Newspaper & a plate or bowl -Foam brushes or paint brushes -Clear coat spray paint (to make sure the glitter stays on!) First, you’ll want to stuff newspaper down into the shoe so that no glitter or glue gets inside! I removed the laces from my shoes also, just to make sure they didn’t get all gunked up. Pour some of the mod podge onto a plate or into a bowl. I used a paper plate because they are disposable and it was easier to use a flat surface to get a thin coating of the mix. Next, you’ll want to pour some glitter into the mod podge. You’ll want about half as much glitter as there is mod podge, because you don’t want the mix to be too thick. Mix the glitter and mod podge together using one of your foam brushes. Then get ready to paint your shoes! Paint a thin coat of the mix onto the shoe. Make sure that it is smooth and not too chunky because it will dry that way! I didn’t want to paint the whole shoe, so I only painted the front and the back, leaving the middle white. Once you have the mod podge mix on the shoe, you’ll want to pour a SMALL amount of glitter onto the spots you just painted. This just gives the shoe a little extra glitter, and makes sure that there are no white spots. When you’re finished adding the glitter to the shoes, you’ll want to clean off any extra glitter that is on the shoe because you don’t want it to be stuck there when you spray the clear coat. I used a damp paper towel to clean off the edges and the bottom. Last but not least, spray your shoes with a clear coat spray paint. This makes sure that the glitter stays shiny and does not fall off the shoes. Make sure to read the directions on the can and do not get it on your skin or in your eyes. When this is done, you’ll want the shoes to sit and dry overnight to make sure that they are ready to wear.
Why Men Can't Buy the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team Jerseys
It is official. It is irrefutable. The U.S. women's national soccer team is the best in the world. So it would be natural for Americans, I mean all Americans, to support their women's national team by wearing their jerseys right? And that's especially true in the world of soccer, because soccer is all about pageantry. What you wear is critical to show true support for your team. And Nike, which is the official sponsor of both the Men's and Women's national soccer team, took in pre-orders just prior to the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. But shortly after the pre-orders were sold out, Nike had to cancel all the orders. Why? The answer lies behind the two stars you see above the crest. These stars represent the number of World Cups that the U.S. women's national team has won (1991, 1995). Now after winning the 2015 World Cup, another star was added to their jerseys. But of course, the men's national soccer team does not have any stars above the crest, because well... they haven't won a World Cup yet. So, Nike decided to cancel the orders for the men's version of the women's national soccer team jerseys because it could give the false impression that the men's team have won those World Cups. What is this nonsense? What should the men and boys, who made up 61% of the 13.5 million viewers that tuned in for the 2011 World Cup finals do? It is such a shame that we still face gender inequality issues and it extends beyond the field. It even applies to fans and their freedom and passion to support their own team. A male fan should be able to wear an Alex Morgan uniform or Abby Wambach's uniform. And who cares if the women's national team won three World Cups and the men's national team hasn't won any? In the end, playing like a girl means you're a badass. What do my sports fans think about this issue? DIY Sponge-Dyed Ombre Sneakers
You'll need: • Gloves • Syringe (1 per color) — Optional but recommended :) • Rubber Cement — Optional • Masking Tape — If you don’t have rubber cement • Sponge • Popsicle sticks for mixing the dye • Fabric Dye (Liquid or Powder) • Paintbrush (Make sure it’s clean — I suggest using a new brush; just buy the cheapest one) • Plastic Cups for mixing dye • Hot water • Newspaper or anything to cover your work area • Wear clothes you don’t mind having fabric dye spilled or splattered on Step 1: Bring out your sneakers :D (old or new) Step 2: Cover all the rubber side strips with Masking tape or Rubber Cement to block out the dye from adhering to the rubber. You can remove it afterwards or wait for it to wear off We won’t be dipping the entire shoe in the dye mixture so there’s no need to cover the soles. Step 3: Now you have to wet/soak your sneakers (canvas part only) with HOT water. You can do so by using a paintbrush first then soaking it more with a sponge. Step 4: Make your dye mixture Step 5: Once you’re done mixing your dye mixture (darkest) ~ take out your atomizer and syringe (optional). I think the smaller atomizers will work best for sneakers as it won’t cover a large surface area. For bigger materials such as shirts, you can use the bigger atomizers (Yes, the one you use when ironing clothes) Step 6: Use your sponge to wet your sneakers again :) Make sure to cover the whole area~! Spray the back part of your shoe with the dye bath. Careful not to over-spray :) You can always spray again :D Step 7 : Now take your brush, dip it in your hot water and carefully blend out your dye (Colored to white areas of your shoe). Yes, we are now creating the ‘ombre effect’. Use more water as you get nearer the middle part of your shoe or wherever you want the ombre to end (white). Afterwards, clean your brush and dip it again in water (clean hot water). Now carefully brush water starting from the WHITE part of your shoe to the lightest ombre — this is to remove or make any hard lines more subtle. Repeat steps until you’re satisfied with your ombre. If you’re using only one color, you can stop here and let your sneaks dry :) Step 8: If you’re planning to have 2 or more colors, simply repeat steps 4 - 7.
