One of Oculus Rift's biggest competitors the HTC Vive (is it pronounced like the word five? Or is there a "vee" sound? I don't know. I don't care) just announced how much it'll cost and it lands at:
Eight. Hundred. Dollars.
Holy smokes! I know I thought that the Rift was expensive but with the Vive being a full two-hundred dollars more than the Rift it looks like the Oculus Rift is a better option than this one. Now, I don't know too much about the Vive but apparently it's "really cool" and has SteamVR support. I'm interested to see how many people will pick this up over the Oculus since its price is so much higher.
If you're one of those people that has 800 dollars to blow, you can pre-order the Vive on February 29th and expect to receive it sometime in April of this year.
But this really has me wondering what this announcement will do to the price of the PSVR system.
For those who don't know, PSVR is the other VR device that's in the running against the Vive and the Rift. To my knowledge, nothing has been announced in terms of price points or release dates but maybe this'll push Sony to make the cost a little lower than they originally planned.
With Rift at 600 and the Vive at 800, do you think that PSVR will retail at a significantly lower price than the both of them? I honestly hope so because I'd really love to experience VR at a cheaper price so I don't feel guilty for neglecting my medical or student loan or phone bills. But what do you guys think? Will you get any one of these VR Headsets?
