It's been about 16 years since the release of the very first Hitman game (one that my dad bought on a whim -- which is the only reason why I've played every single title in the series) and it's kind of hard to believe that the series has been going on for this long. In the latest trailer for the new episodic Hitman game (that starts on March 11th) takes you down memory lane to remind you of all of Agent 47's more memorable moments.
I don't really have high hopes for the episodic version of the game but it was nice to relive all the moments from the series that I absolutely lost my mind at when they had first come out. I also think it's really cool of the developers to pay homage to the previous games in the series with a trailer like this.
Even though it's (definitely) not a gameplay trailer it's still pretty cool to see these iconic moments rendered with new graphics because after revisiting the first Hitman game a couple of months ago, I was a little bummed out at how blocky everything looked (I always remembered them having pretty good graphics).
And the voice-over that plays during part of the trailer is interesting because it seems like all of the actions (and by actions I mean assassinations) that took place in the previous games led up to whatever the story is in this new episodic game. And, I know I know, I've been using the word "episodic" pretty liberally when I write about this game but it's only because I want it to be a constant reminder that the structure of this game shouldn't be episodic.
I know that the full game is going to come out eventually (after all the episodes have been released) but I really wish I could experience the whole thing in one go instead of having to wait. It's hard for me stay engaged in episodic games unless I fall in love with them (I still haven't finished the Game of Thrones Telltale Series even though I got the season pass because I realized that I don't really like Game of Thrones at all).
Hopefully after the first episode comes out on March 11th, there'll be some promising reviews of it. I think that'll be the only thing to sway my decision in playing this game.
