Believe it or not, this time of year is when everybody assumes that the Winter cold and flu season is behind us. Not true! The combination of looser layers of clothing and the lax regimen to remain healthy without succumbing to illness makes this time of year a potent one for bacteria to thrive.
In an effort to stave off the effects of an on-coming cold, here's a centuries-old brew that will jump-start the body's extraction of the bacteria, that I found on JoyTheBaker. It's called Warming Mustard Bath Powder, and it's incredibly easy to make, using ingredients that you already have in your home!
1 1/2 cups Epsom salt
1 cup baking soda
1 cup mustard powder
15 drops eucalyptus essential oil (optional)
15 drops peppermint essential oil (optional)
In a large bowl, whisk together salt, baking soda, mustard powder, and essential oils. Use your fingers to break up any baking soda lumps. Store in an airtight container.
When ready to run a bath, add 1 heaping cup of mustard mixture to a hot running bath. Soak for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse off in warm water. Bundle in a luxe terrycloth bath coat and savor a hot cup of tea.
The point is to allow your body to sweat and relax. This is all part of the process, so enjoy it!
