Hello Super Nakama and welcome to another super week here on Super Sunday!
It's a great time to be alive my nakama as we have two huge anniversaries in the anime world. February 26th marked the 30th anniversary of Dragon Ball and one day later on February 27th marked the 20th year anniversary of Pokemon!
If you know me at all you know that these are two of my favorite things. I grew up on these two anime and they are the stepping stone to my love of anime: check out my stories on both these anime by clicking here.
There's no doubt that these two mean a lot to me so for this Super Sunday a small tribute to Dragon Ball and Pokemon!
The Dragon Ball anime first debuted on February 26th, 1986 in Japan. Dragon Ball didn't see a western release until September 13th, 1996 with Dragon Ball Z with the original Dragon Ball coming out August 20th 2001. Dragon Ball Z built huge popularity with western audiences with it's explosives action and intriguing characters and story lines. The adventures of Goku and friends really kept people glued to their tv's to see if Goku can overcome extreme odds and if that Spirit Bomb is going to work (probably not). Dragon Ball continues to grow strong with many video games and movies as well as a brand new series in 2015: Dragon Ball Super!
I first got into Dragon Ball during it's re-dub by Funimation back in 2005 thanks to some friends and I never looked back. It was my life back in middle school and high school and I say thank you Akira Toriyama and thank you Dragon Ball Z happy 30th Anniversary!
Pokemon first released in Japan in 1996 as Red and Green with Blue being released later in the year as a special edition. They were later released as Red and Blue in North America, Europe and Australia over the following three years. Pokemon Yellow would be released as a special edition roughly a year later. An anime and manga was created in junction and grab the attention of children around the world. Pokemon was the first look for western children in the world of Anime; teaching kids asbout love and respect for our friends giving basic moral values. Pokemon continues to shine spawning 25 main series games and many side games. The anime and manga continue and bring the same action and adventure loved by children and adults.
Pokemon means more to me then I can describe. I would wake up before school to watch the show then bring my gameboy to school and play Pokemon:Blue with my friends. I say thank you to Satoshi Tajiri,Ken Sugimori, Game Freak and Nintendo; Congrats on 20 years!
I apologize for this late post nakama, this weekend has been crazy.
