WHO almost played Iron Man???

It's a weird club to be in.

Can you imagine Nicholas Cage saying "I am Iron Man" with a straight face? Because that's what almost happened. In 1997! But he went on to play Ghost Rider instead, and Robert Downey Jr. ended up playing the role. But Nick Cage wasn't the only one being considered for Tony Stark...

Tom Cruise!

His name was attached to Iron Man in the early 00s, but apparently he left the project because the script didn't feel right to him (via).
"I don’t know. It just … they came to me at a certain point and … when I do something, I wanna do it right. If I commit to something, it has to be done in a way that I know it’s gonna be something special. And as it was lining up, it just didn’t feel to me like it was gonna work."
Fair enough. The script was rumored to be unfinished throughout most of the production process, with numerous scenes being improvised by the actors.

No, not Jonah Hill.

Though tbh I'd watch that movie. Leonardo DiCaprio was on the list, but he ended up doing Body of Lies instead.

Hugh Jackman

Even though he'd already been playing Wolverine, Fox owns those movies. He would have been free the play Iron Man without making the Marvel universe explode. Unfortunately [thankfully?] the rumors didn't amount to anything.

Would you have liked to see any of these actors play Iron Man?

It's weird to think how different those movies would be without RDJ in the leading role!

5 Wise Thoughts From Leonardo DiCaprio's Parade Interview
Leonardo DiCaprio. He's a true talent. A timeless actor. Someone who still deserves an Oscar. Leonardo DiCaprio is arguably one of the best actors in Hollywood who has never seemed to get enough credit. His iconic roles are in the biggest movies in history yet he goes un-awarded creating the very humbling and gracious actor he is today. DiCaprio will continue to capture the hearts of millions by captivating movie goers in numerous roles. There really isn't anything DiCaprio can't do and he doesn't need an award to prove it. Parade Magazine captured the essence of how DiCaprio made a name for himself and sustained an impressive career. On Sacrifice "If I wanted to quit acting, I could have done it a long time ago. I love making movies. I feel lucky and fortunate to do it, and it is absolutely worth sacrificing a lot of my private life. I don't think anyone [famous] ever really gets used to it. It's always surreal." On Staying Humble "At the end of the day, there are people with much harder jobs who sacrifice a lot more of their own lives to do them, people in the armed forces. I don't want to hear myself complain about the hardships of being famous—because I do have the freedom to stop, if I wanted to." On Marriage "The truth is, you can't predict marriage. You can't plan it. It's just going to happen when it happens." On Childhood "Very early on I was always impersonating different characters, imitating people who came by. I loved doing that and getting the amazing experience of seeing people's reactions. You see your parents laughing. It's a communal family experience, and you share that love, you know?" On Acting/Movies "Acting always represented a way out for me. I saw many things in the neighborhoods where I grew up that were pretty terrifying. Acting takes you away from reality. Being able to escape was important. Movies do that for me. Two hours inside of a theater can transport you into a completely other universe. To me, that's the beauty of movies."
