The song The Sad Waltzes of Pietro Crespi by the band Owen (Mike Kinsella of American Football) might be in my Top 5 favorite songs off all time. I repeatedly go back to it every couple months because it understands one basic need everyone has. And if they don't have it, they felt it at least once in their life.
The song's lyrics are simple enough but they touch upon the feeling of wanting to be with someone gracefully. The intricate guitar lines throughout the song give us the feeling that even though his lyrics are pretty simple in nature, the theme of the song is much more complex.
And that's why I like this song so much. It captures everything that goes along with wanting someone for the rest of your life. I don't think I can describe it anymore than I already have so I just left the song -- and the lyrics -- for you below.
Could you love someone enough? After all you've had and you've lost? It's a simple question, I'm only asking 'cause I don't want to die alone. Could you love someone completely? And yes, by "someone" I mean me. Spoiled sick like milk you let sit too long. It's a simple question. As I lie awake waiting for you to lay beside me, I can almost hear the sad waltzes of Pietro Crespi. Could you love someone who does whatever he wants to do, whenever I want to? It's a simple question, I'm only asking 'cause I don't want to die alone.
