Guitar Photography Challenges - White Guitars
Cat in the photo aside - the challenges of shooting a white object in any situation can test even a seasoned photographer. Shooting in any digital format completely complicates the situation for digital is prone to blowing out (losing detail) in hot/white areas. A good rule of thumb - which I learned in cinematography school ( I was fortunate to have learned both digital and film - I went to school just as the digital technology was gaining momentum in the film industry) - that rule is if shooting film it's better to slightly over-expose than under-expose and digital is the opposite; it's better to under-expose than over-expose. Film needs light to make the halides react and capture an image. Over exposed film can be pulled back down. Digital technology's main weakness is the loss of detail if the sensor is over-exposed. It's easier to pull under-exposed digital images up - noting that you're going to get a lot more grain and color artifacts - than to work with an image that was over-exposed because with digital an over-exposed image has NO detail to work with. I use an incident meter for reading the light in studio instead of my camera's spot meter. The difference between a spot meter (which meters the light reflected from one area of the subject you are shooting) and an incident meter (which reads the amount of light falling on the subject from the light source) - is that reflected light is affected by the color, texture, and position of the object it is read from and an incident meter will give you a general reading of the light all around the subject. This is very handy for lighting a green screen, which must be uniformly lit. Think of the incident meter as giving you a great average place for your camera settings - to ensure you'll get the best (most "normal") exposure. BTW - "Normal Exposure" is a photography term - an image which is shot with normal exposure will have details in the brightest and darkest areas of the frame. No black shadows without detail, no bright highlights without detail. Another MAJOR consideration is shadows. You can mask the shadows from the bridge and knobs on a guitar that's stained or finished in a darker color. But white? It's nearly impossible to shoot the image without some shadows (unless the guitar is inside a light box). By shooting the image with the incident meter I get a medium point for exposure where I won't blow the whites out or get the dark areas too murky - and this makes cleaning the guitar up in Photoshop much easier. The last thing to consider is the purpose of the photos... if you are shooting them for a catalog, you want straight, clean, non-distorted images. In this application I use a 50mm lens with zero distortion along the edges. I center the lens at 90 degrees from the plane of the fingerboard/neck - and I place the lens in the center of the guitar - usually around 5 inches above the neck/body joint. If you are shooting images for a magazine (editorial) or a coffee table book - then you may choose to augment the unique design features of the guitar's design. I shot these photos for a book on vintage/classic guitars. For this reason I chose to use the shadows to bring out design details such as the joint between the neck and the body and the "Made in USA" stamp which is gently indented into the wood under the finish on the back of the headstock. Lastly I chose to use a Panagor Macro Adaptor (it fits onto the camera and the lens attaches to it - it has it's own focus ring and aperture) - to shoot extreme close-up images - macro shots) but limiting focus to a few millimeters. This is called selective focus and it allows you more control over the composition. The human eye - controlled by the human brain - will automatically move to the area of focus in a photograph. By carefully selecting the area that is in focus you ensure the image is presented and received with the content you've selected being the undisputed focal point of the photo. I hope these little tips help. Happy shooting! And if you shoot some guitar photos and would like to share them with me, please tag me in your card!

Lisa!!!
Holy crap, she is just great!!! Lisa is a Japanese music artist and by far the best I have heard. Her music is so catchy and it has a happy tune to it. So her genes are pop, rock, and anison. If you don't speak Japanese still listen to her she is amazing. I love this picture for some weird reason she reminds me oh Nonnon from Kill la Kill. Speaking of kill la kill that reminds me she did do songs for anime.😃 Soo...what shows did she do you ask?? Fate/Zero, Sword art Online, Day Break Illusion, Nisekoi, and The Irregular at Magic High school. In my opinion her best album is land space. Why, you ask? Because her songs in "Land space" are all catchy fun and the lyrics really move to the beats in the song!!!🎵 Man I want to see her concert so bad. Who will give me money to go see her!?!? Rising hope from the irregular at Magic high school. She did an amazing job on this music Video and the song. The way she sang it really brings out the meaning of the show😍 Lisa being only 28 does a great job! I give a huge thumbs up to her!!😊 The only reason I found out about her is when my crazy friend told me who did the songs for sword art online. He said she was the best and I had to check her out. So I did and I came to loving her. Lxixsxa.com is her website it won't let me get the link.😢 So any way that's it. She's awesome. If you guys like her then make sure to tell me in the comments or fell free to message me. I'll defiantly be making some more on bands I listen to.(not just Japanese artist) But yeah if you ever go to or have been to one of Lisa's concerts make a card with a picture of the concert and be sure to tag me in it.😊 Alright Bye and keep on Rocking it!!!😍 You get music reference? No, ok. I thought it was funny.😢

This is not a Challenge...I know people are super busy with school. But comment below some songs on your Playlist or you can make a card if you wish. If you pick to make a card please tag me. I would like to see what music you enjoy. @poojas @kpopandkimchi @VixenViVi @JazzyPie @shannonl5 @NSSagasshi @ErinGregory @SharayahTodd @dreemer13 @touchmybuttoppa @SarahHawkins @KpopGaby @BlueBear07 @PrettieeEmm @KaceyDodge @glostick @LaurnAntoine @StephanieDuong Incubus Song...Adolescents I LOVE INCUBUS. I FEEL IN LOVE WITH THEM IN HIGH SCHOOL. If you need an introduction to American rock you should check them out. They are a mixture of rock and they have some lighter rock songs. It's cool listening to their old music to their most current music. I love seeing how they evolved. Besides Brandon Boyd the leader singer is super sexy. His voice was the first voice take me have music babies...lol GD & T.O.P Song....Zutter I love these two and they are known for being the double combo. The lyrics are smooth, sexy, and creative. Plus I love the beat. You can't go wrong with these two amigos. Jay Park Song...Sextrip I love this song...but now it for the grown and sexy. The lyrics are for mature audiences....but if you know JP he is not one to be shy. He's very much bold and sexy. This is a nice slow jam and it's in all English. Korn Sings....A.D.I.D.A.S and Freak on a Leash I discovered Korn when I came upon Incubus. This is a hardcore band. Hard rock mixed with in your face lyrics. A.D.I.D.A.S is a mature song with explicit lyrics. The video is explicit too so if you want to see the official video for that song you can search for it yourself. EXO Songs...Playboy...Hurt...Answer EXO OMG!! I love their new album! Actually, all the songs are on my Playlist from this new album Exodus. Playboy and Hurt have very catchy sexy lyrics. They perform it well. Hurt has a sick bass. I love bass. Answer is so sweet. I would love this as my wedding song. I mean who wouldn't melt if their EXO bias said "You gonna get my love" to them. 30 Seconds to Mars Song...Mission This is another rock song. I love the lyrics and the beat. These guys are talented. Jared Leto is the lead singer and he has a powerful voice...plus he'd super cute. Their look has changed over the past years, but they continue to be awesome. Seungri Song...Let’s Talk About Love Now, this video has English translation along with the song. Anyhow... people under rate King Seungri. He's super sexy and talented. This song is so cool. Taeyang and GD are featured on here and HD crack me up with his slick cussing in here...but who cares lol. This song has a nice beat. Seungri did his thang! Desung....Look at me and T.O.P...Doom Dada D-Lite sometimes is under rated too. But he has an awesome voice and is super cute. I love listening to him and watching him perform. T.O.P is an awesome rapper and his Doom Dada proves that. You can't ignore this man. Taeyang Song...Love you to Death This sing has great moving lyrics and the bear is awesome. I was told CL does the female part. Youngbae has an awesome voice that makes you melt all inside. Sorry for the long card amigos, but I hope you enjoyed it. You can tell I have a diverse taste in music lol.
I'm learning to play the guitar. Help?
For most of my life, music has been the thing that I am most passionate about. For most of my life, I have convinced myself that I am incapable of actually making any music of my own. But for a brief (and ill-fated) foray into the universe of the piano in my early teens, I've never been able to do much of anything with instruments. Which is odd, because I know that I have a really good ear for music - at least, that's what I pride myself on. And when I talk to people about music, it eventually comes up that I don't know how to play a damned thing, and I get embarrassed. So I'm putting an end to that. This is a public declaration: I am learning to play the guitar. There. I said it. Now, I have no choice. People are watching. Right? I can't really say why it's taken me so long to realize this, but the reality is that while I say I have no musical ability, I haven't actually ever tried. Yes, I played the piano for a few years. But I hated it, because that's not the kind of music that I like. The guitar is. I dug out my mom's old guitar - the one she claims to have bought some time in the mid-'70s - and started familiarizing myself with it. I'm taking it slow - I literally don't have the first idea of what to do. I found an online class (thank you internet) that I'm hoping will do a good job at teaching me. I started to learn the language and posture last night, just sitting on the floor with the guitar in my lap. When I first picked it up, I felt so uncomfortable, so awkward. I couldn't get my arms right. But after only half an hour, it started to feel more natural. Sure, my back hurt a little from being in a strange, unfamiliar position, but the guitar started to feel OK in my hands. And I learned how to hold a pick. And what a fret is. It was an encouraging, if slow, start. I'm committed to this. It's going to be hard, and I may not be ready to play a single note for a week. But I know that things like this take time, and I'm prepared to dedicate some real hours to figuring it out. I don't have an end goal, outside of just being able to competently make some sounds with a guitar. That's all I want - and if I can get there, I'll be one happy man. Suggestions? Does anyone have a good website with tricks and tips? Or any pointers of your own? Anything and everything helps! I'll keep you guys posted!
How To Use Writing As Therapy
I woke up this morning with every intention of crawling back into bed and forgetting what consciousness ever felt like. Car lights from outside crawled across my frosted glass window and I thought, how can it still be so dark outside? It was 5:30 A.M. and I didn't have to be up until 7. I cursed my mind for causing the stir, and couldn't fathom going back to sleep, so I sat up in bed, feeling the weight of every obligation that has fallen on my shoulders in the past few months. These days, the words aren't coming as easily, and each thought, every burst of energy is going toward auxiliary functions, like breathing and walking. This is what the first humans must have felt like when they first hit earth: firing on all cylinders in order to do such simple things. Exhaustion is the number one enemy of productivity, and still I press forward, feeling as if nothing I do is ever enough. I can't seem to figure out if I'm in the right place at the right time or not. Some days I feel stellar, and others I feel like I'm being stepped on by God's mighty boot, being jettisoned deeper and deeper into the ground by my own mused melancholy. I guess, being an artist, you can't help but be tortured right? It's been studied, people who "think too much" end up being the most depressed, because their thoughts encompass almost everything. It's hard to move and live day to day when your head is so far in the future that your body has already given out, and you're on your death bed. I feel like I've been living 20 years ahead of myself. I am never able to enjoy the moment. I am never able to give myself any credit. I am already in the ground as far as my brain is concerned. These thoughts, this person I have become is racing against time each moment they are conscious. This is why I love sleep, because the lights turn off and the party is over. I can rest. Getting there, is another story. I tried to sit down and write a song last night, but just the thought of that entire process made me so anxious that I had to walk away from it. That has never happened before. It scared me a bit. Like something was holding me back. I have to figure this out. I used to think writing a song, or writing things down could solve all of my problems, like magically once the words hit the page, I would be a new person. Sometimes it works, sometimes it makes me feel worse, but I guess it's all a form of therapy. I'm not sure what the point of this rabble is, or if it will be productive to likes, views or whatever, but for some reason I feel a bit better. Owning up to this emptiness will enable me to move forward right? This is what we have to believe in order to move on. In order to self-improve. It's like a cleansing of the thoughts. Now that they are on the page, they don't have to own my consciousness. Using writing as a means of personal excavation can be exhausting, dangerous and completely insane, but I swear by it. There is some truth to creating a reality in your head that doesn't necessarily match up with what's really going on. I have to admit there is something fearless about all of this. All the eyes and what not. There is a freak show element, though, and where the eyes and people gawk and stare, there can be real truth. I guess it's not self improvement, it's self defense.
