The original Kickboxer was one of my favorite movies when I was a teenager. It wasn't because I feel like it's a piece of cinematic history or that it was a good movie. It was mostly because it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
And there's a part of me that has an intense feeling of enjoyment when I watch absolutely horrible movies. In my opinion, bad movies are funnier than the best comedies. It's wonderful and amazing while being terrible and jaw-clenching. It's a weird dichotomy but I enjoy it.
So when I saw that there was a teaser trailer for Kickboxer Vengeance, a movie that'll be coming to VOD later this year, I felt an intense amount of EXCITEMENT.
I have no idea what I'm supposed to be feeling while I watch this 30 second teaser. But I know I'm going to both HATE and LOVE watching this movie. Since I'm so confused as to what it's actually about, I'm going to make up a synopsis.
I'm hoping this is going to be weird Kickboxer version of Creed. Maybe JCVD is coming back to teach whatever young dude they have playing the protagonist how to kick bamboo trees. I'm hoping there's a lot of attempts at emotional moments between JCVD and Young Guy. Mostly because I'll definitely be crying from laughing so hard.
But imagine that this movie is actually amazing? Like, what if it's the Citizen Kane of JCVD movies? Wouldn't that be such an amazing twist on what I expect from the action genre? One could only hope, right?
