Should Employees Get Time Off To Mourn death Of Pet?
People are ATTACHED to their pets.
To some, pets are truly like a family member. They welcome them into their home with open arms and do everything in their power to feed, love and bond with their pet. They both become attached to each other deeply.
Sadly, that bond is broke when the pet passes away. Some owners are able to take it in stride, while some truly struggle with the loss of their pet.
If the pet is truly like a member of the family, should we be allowed time off from work to cope with the loss?
According to this one company, pet owners should get time off to cope with the loss of their pet.
From CBS:
"Software company VM Ware and Maxwell Health gives employees flexible days off. Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants allows managers to grant up to three days away from work, and pet insurance company Trupanion gives employees one paid pet bereavement day.
“We allow people to actually do that grieving process and just, just be able to heal. I think you need closure when you lose a pet, and it’s important to have the time to do that,” Dani Kahn, Trupanion said.
Should it be mandatory that companies allow workers time off after the loss of a pet?

I don't think it should be mandatory but i would like it if more companies let their employees have some time to grieve. Some people don't understand that pets are a part of the family. When a family member passes it is hard on everyone.

I think companies should have flex days off that employees can use for what they need them for- sick kid, death of a pet, whatever. People all have different needs so stuff like days off should be flexible enough to suit everyone
