This Awesome Lightning Cosplay Makes Me Think I'm Looking at Screenshots
If you can believe it, the picture above is an actual picture and not a screenshot of a redesign of Final Fantasy XIII character, Lightning. In the most inquisitive and not creepy at all way I spent a good part of my morning staring at these photos. Cosplayer Kilory truly brought Lightning to life and it makes me think about that Lightning being Louis Vuitton's latest spokesperson thing that happened a couple of months ago. And maybe Louis Vuitton should contact Kilory to cosplay as Lightning if they ever want their weird cross-promotional marketing thing to enter the real world, right? A Decade of Okami and Hope for a Sequel
For anyone who doesn't know, Okami was a beautifully rendered and designed game for the Playstation 2 that came out 10 years ago (going by the Japan release date of 4/20/06). In commemoration of this decade of Okami, the game's lead character designer Ken'ichirō Yoshimura tweeted a picture of this celebratory artwork. He also talked about how strange it is to reach this 10-year mark for Okami after also reaching the 10-year mark with another game that he had worked on: Viewtiful Joe, which was released in 2003 and hit the decade mark a few years ago. Yoshimura must have been afflicted with nostalgia glasses, because he also tweeted about how he'd like to make an Okami sequel while is still lives. Obviously this is far from any kind of confirmation or really even a hint of possibility, but I think when you've got the lead character design interested in maybe doing some more design, it's something we can at least be hopeful about. Okami was a game that really helped push the argument for games as works of art. Contemporaries of the title in 2006 would have been some tom Clancy stuff, but then also Bioshock shortly after Okami's release. Games were really starting to take off as artistic endeavors and not just mindless shooters. Seeing another Okami on the current generation of consoles would be amazing. Imagine the possibilities, especially considering the PS4's touch pad capabilities. The drawing ability of Okami could potentially be put to good use with the current tech supporting it. Still though, just because Yoshimura is interested in doing another one doesn't mean there will ever be one. For now, we can just dream sweet dreams of Amaterasu and her beauty and savagery.
The Titans Are Coming in August, Are You Ready?
Two months ago, I wrote about an Attack on Titan game that ended up coming out in Japan a little bit ago looks like it's coming out in North America and Europe in August. Now, if you know me (the robot, former human), then you know that I am extremely excited for this game. I didn't think that it'd ever come out for Western audiences but I'm glad that I was wrong. But can you blame me? I mean, a lot of Japanese games hardly ever make it over to the Americas and/or Europe, an example of this is the Yakuza series (games I really want to get into). A trailer was released today announcing the European release date (and after some research, I found the North American release date, which is just two days later) and I'm extremely excited for it. The trailer isn't anything we haven't seen before but there is one thing that I'm really happy about. It essentially just looks like the Japanese trailer with English subtitles. And one of the things I constantly worry about when they bring these Japanese games to the West, the character usually get horrible English dubs which make me feel queasy. So, I'm really glad that I'll get to play the game in the same way that I watched the show. It also looks like the game covers the first season of the show, so if you haven't watched past that it shouldn't be a problem for you. Or, you can start watching it again now just to catch up. AOT: Wings of Freedom will be released on (almost) every platform on August 26th in Europe and August 28th in North America.
