Help! How Can I Love These Lip Products?!

Alright everyone: I need your help!

These are two lip products I bought without really knowing what the colors would be like on my skin because I always buy the same color lip stick! (Berry colors, very close to my natural lip color).
But I just...don't...like them! I think it has more to do with what I'm expected & my tendency to only where darker berry pinks, but maybe they just look bad on me.

Can you help?

First: Colourpop Lippie Stix in Cake

Of the two, this is the one I think I'm most likely to come around to! While the color is WAY paler than anything I'm used to wearing, this is the third time I've tried to apply it. And I didn't totally hate it this time!
I still think the coloring just isn't right for me - but what could I do to make it look more appropriate?

Second: Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Retro Coral

I don't know what I expected from this color....but this is what I got. It just feels so clownish to me! Am I imagining how orange it looks with my tones? Or am I just being dramatic because it's way more colorful than anything I'm used to?
It probably doesn't help that my lips needs some TLC before they can handle a liquid lipstick...but I just don't know how to make this work!

SO want to love these!

I'm convinced that if I style these differently I can make them work, but maybe it's a lost cause. Or maybe they're already fine & I'm being ridiculous.

Any & all opinions/feedback are welcome!!!

Help a girl out :)

@ZoeMe It's SO hard for me to do an eye with less eyeliner / heaviness than I do (not that my look is that heavy, haha). I need to buy myself a bronzer & try this again - thanks for all the tips!!

if the contrast is a problem, you could try blotting with a napkin or using translucent powder on your lips.
