Slain is a new game coming to Steam today, and it looks pretty cool based on the trailer. It's all pixels and dark backgrounds contrasted by bright foregrounds and animations. It's a 2D sidescroller packed with dynamic character action.
It also has a heavy metal soundtrack, which is right in line with the aesthetics of the game.
The short trailer for the game gives a brief look at some different environments that the player will fight through. Everything has a sinister atmosphere to it, and the enemies all seem to subscribe to the dungeon crawler's lookbook.
There also seems to be some kind of elemental weapon system, as the trailer shows instances of a flaming sword, and also some kind of spirit-looking axe.
I guess that the main character's name is Bathoryu based on the giant wolf dialogue window in the trailer. A lot of what's going on here screams Castlevania, and that is by no means a bad thing. I love Castlevania. I'm already waiting for 'Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night' to come out (probably next year).
So this looks like a great way to get some good, old-fashioned Castlevania goodness in a modern package, with a lot more heavy metal, and a main character that looks a little bit like Geralt...
