In one of the weirdest bits of news I've read all week, Harmonix (the company behind the Rock Band series and the early Guitar Hero games) have started a Fig campaign -- Fig is basically the Kickstarter for video games -- in order to get their latest Rock Band release on PC.
For a company that's pretty, well, high-profile, I think it's kind of weird that they're going the crowdfunding route when it comes to porting their game to PC. But it looks like one of their rewards is the complete catalogue of Rock Band songs. But only if you pledge $2,500 to their campaign.
That's more money than I make in a year and even if I made a bunch of money every hour, I don't know if I'm that dedicated to the Rock Band series to actually pledge that much money towards the game. Don't get me wrong, I loved playing Rock Band when it first came out. It was one of my favorite games.
But after I couldn't afford all the DLC and got tired of having a bunch of plastic instruments in my house, I realized that I should probably pick up an actual guitar and learn how to play it. So, that's what I did. I played a bunch of actual guitar and got pretty okay at it.
And even though I can't play really cool guitar solos or jam on a drum set for longer than 15 minutes, I still have more fun with an actual instrument than I do with a plastic one. And I know I said $2,500 is a little steep for me to invest into a game I'd hardly play. But at this point in my life, I don't think I'd pay $2.50 for Rock Band songs.
What would you guys do? Is this one of those "if I won the lottery" things for you? Or are you totally uninterested the same way that I am?
I forgot to mention that I never actually played Rock Band, just Guitar Hero. I might actually enjoy playing the drums, though. Although, as you mentioned, I'd probably have more fun just learning how to play the actual drums.
Totally uninterested. I played Guitar Hero when it came out, but quickly got tired of it. I can't really get all of my fingers to work right to play it well. I'd rather just play some old DDR on the controller. And I understand the whole "pledge this much, get this," but I would expect a little more than just all of the songs for that much money.
I'm gonna launch a gofundme so I can pledge to this kickstarter.
