Critics be damned, but I actually enjoyed Dawn of Justice! I'll try to convey what I thought without spoilers, for those who have yet to see it, so this should be pretty quick!
First, let me address the title, because it's a little bit of a trick. I think "Batman v Superman" is actually a hook and a cover up so that the real title, "Dawn of Justice," is overshadowed and overlooked, which I think is kinda clever. I believe that one of the reasons this got a bad review is that it is actually a prologue for what is to come in the DC cinematic universe, and critics don't get it and/or don't know how to handle it.
General comments: - Kept Hans Zimmer for music - noice ♥ - Pacing was a bit slow at times, probably due to the plot being a bit disjoint, switching between the plot of the individual movie and introduction of the bigger picture plot (remember how I said this was more of a prologue?) - This one will be vague to avoid spoilers, but some characters do not act as expected, but keep an open mind because I smell character development! - Superman is a bit of an idiot; there were various times I found myself thinking "he should have done <INSERT SMARTER ACTION HERE>," but I guess it was to a forgivable extent - Cute one liners/easter eggs - always a plus in my book
So the verdict? It may not become a favorite, but I certainly didn't hate it on its own merits. It was definitely enjoyable, and as I've made clear, I can see it's going somewhere, so I'm eager to see where it leads! Considering the situation with it being kind of a prologue, it's hard to judge it on its own, but I think I'd give it somewhere around 3.5-4 out of 5 stars! So those are my thoughts! If you've seen it, let me know what you think!
@Boggleman @shannonl5 I was not sure that jimmy until I really thought about it. then it made me really question this superman's morality.
@Boggleman No worries about spoilers! I mostly just meant for the card itself to be spoiler free, but comments are free for all, so have at it!
@shannonl5 don't get me started but let me started I enjoyed it.... But it kinda felt like a longer trailer or prequel for the Justice League movie at times... and it had a lot going on definitely not a movie you can walk out on or you will miss something... And I know most of us don't care for the choice of Ben Affleck being picked to play Batman but I must say that he did an awesome job and he made me feel as if this was my Batman I read in the comics growing up outside of he lush head (alcoholic) traits but I could tell this was a mam batting demons from years of fighting crime and the most of Jason Todd... Plus this movie should just been called the Dark Knight Returns since they had a shit ton of easter eggs and references like the first scene all the way to the nuke hitting Sups ( oops spoiler)... lemme stop before I give it away... But I say I seen a deleted scene and they should should have kept Darkseid Servent in there to explain why Doomsday was in the movie (oops another spoiler... Wait? not really..). But besides that I am in love with Wonder Woman I shall find Gal Gabot and make here mine😍😍😍😍
@shannonl5 yes, this has me really pumped for WW's own movie!
This is a great write up! I think the total failure the critics were saying was unfair (especially since the box office was so good). Honestly it's hard since now there's a really high bar for movies like these, and personally I think the pacing was a little funny and honestly I agree, I felt like Superman and Batman were both making kind of dumb choices which took me out of it. I also don't really like Zach Snyder's style but that's personal, and I didn't mind it in this one like I have in his other movies. And I really, really, REALLY liked Wonder Woman :D
