The Red Sox announced that the Pablo Sandoval will start this season's Opening Day on the bench.
His $95 million contract with the Red Sox? That will also start the season on the bench with the Big Panda. Last season, his first year with the Red Sox, Sandoval posted a disappointing .245/.292/.366 with ten home runs and 47 RBIs. He also had 15 errors.
It was his worst season in his eight year career in the Major Leagues.
According to the Boston Globe, Travis Shaw will take the starting third base spot. This was pretty much given considering the potential he showed as a rookie last season and how poorly Sandoval has been performing.
This controversy concerning Sandoval's weight has surfaced once again. But the Big Panda doesn't seem too worried. During an interview he said,
“We talked about it. I’m happy with the decision”
Wait what? He went on to say, “They made the decision. It’s the right decision to help the team win. I’m going to be happy. I’m going to be ready on the bench, get ready for anything. I’m going to get ready during the season to do my job.”
Should the Red Sox be concerned with Sandoval's attitude?
