Villanova thrashed Oklahoma 95-51 and North Carolina ran past an overmatched Syracuse squad 83-66 to set the stage for the National Championship game on Monday. In the all time series for 1 seeds vs 2 seeds, the 2 seeds actually lead 26-24.
Josh Hart dropped 23 points and grabbed 8 boards, and Villanova held Buddy Hield to just 9 points as the Wildcats romped their way to the biggest margin of victory in Final Four history. Hart shot 10-of-12 from the field, contributing to Villanova's 71.4 percent (35-of-49) effort. Villanova missed just five shots in the second half. The Wildcats now have four wins in the tournament of at least 19 points, the only close game a 5-point win over overall No. 1 seed Kansas in the Elite Eight. Hield shot a miserable 4-12 from the field including 1-8 from beyond the arc. He averaged 25.4 ppg this season, but the Cats buckled down on defense and prevented him from getting any open looks.
North Carolina dominated in the paint in their double digits victory over Syracuse. Marcus Paige finished with 13 points and Brice Johnson and Justin Jackson led North Carolina (33-6) with 16 apiece, as the Tar Heels, the lone No. 1 seed in the Final Four, beat Jim Boeheim's 10th-seeded Orange for the third time this season. North Carolina finished with 16 second-chance points on 16 offensive boards. Even more telling were points in the paint: Tar Heels 50, Orange 32. This is the 5th title game for Roy Williams, tying him at 3rd all time with Adolph Rupp and Dean Smith.
It seems like Villanova will win this year. I was watching the Villanova and Oklahoma game today and it was great. I'm rooting for Villanova.
@KyleBerke Ahhh you're right. Well...let's just say I'm glad Syracuse was knocked out!
@mchlyang I just don't want North Carolina to win another title. I don't think they deserve one with all the allegations against the program.
@KyleBerke Im a Georgetown fan so....😅😅😅😅
Haha @mchlyang you don't like Villanova?
