Have you ever seen a drone that actually knows how to avoid obstacles?
Probably not, because it's not currently a common feature on drones. This guy decided for his PhD to study obstacle avoidance on drones and expects that it'll be commonplace in the next 5 years.
And how did he test it? Well, he decided to fence with it! He didn't really go after it too much with his foil, but you can see that the drone not only avoids the sword, but also avoids the body and does a great job staying stabilized throughout. Kudos to this student, and I hope he passes his defense well!
