AY YO, YO, YOYO, YO!
Welcome to my new series HIP HOP FRIDAY.
Things you should know: - The series revolves around Seventeen's Hip Hop Unit. - There will be a post every Friday for the rest of this Quarter. - You can make requests on this card. - All request must involve at least one member of the Hip Hop Unit. Now that we've gotten the serious business out of the way, it's time to get this shit started! And what better way to get this party hippin and hoppin than to post the banger that sealed my fate as a Hip Hop Unit stan with Vernon as my ultimate Seventeen bias.
After being metaphorically slapped in the face by SMTM4 judges and mocked by khiphop underground stans about his brief appearance and elimination on the show, Vernon clapped back with his song LOTTO not to be confused with Jay Park's LOTTO. (IMHO, Vernon's is a solid 5 stars while Jay's is a 4.5 but I'll just shhh.) And let me tell you, after seeing the clips of his appearance on the show, even I was a bit skeptical of his skills as a rapper. I mean, this is the guy who said "Pull up on you wacks with a Mac fully loaded." How could I have ever possible taken him seriously after that coupled with his SMTM4 performance. But @MorganElisabeth, being the saving grace she is, told me that I had to hear it. So of course I listened to my wifey's advice and boy was I glad that I did.
Now, the first thing that stood out to me was the beat. My initial thought was that some fire is about to spit. And I was right, cause the moment he started rapping the bridge I knew he wasn't playing. You could feel the emotion in his voice. Like it was hard as hell. Seriously, listen to it. Especially if you haven't. Don Mills was definitely a nice addition to the song as well. His voice and rap style complimented Vernon's extremely well. All together, the perfect hit was created. At least to me. It's TOP 15 on my most played and it's been in my favorites since I first heard it.
Four fancams of the same epic performance.
Then just when I thought it couldn't get any better. Vernon, my precious son, VERNON decided to perform this live. And no, he didn't just keep it how it was. He had the audacity to add:
"Headlines, headlines... Fuck it man!"
Had me like:
HANSOL CHILL. SO MUCH SHADE YET NOT A TREE IN SIGHT. SLAY BOY. REPRESENT YO UNIT. DO THE DAMN THING, BRUH!
That's just how hype the song made me. On it's own it gets you hype enough, but him performing it live with his lovely little ad libs had me giving him that bro fist pump. Y'all know the one I'm talking about, don't lie.
Now, I know what you're thinking. "Chelsea is that another fancam of the same song?" *nods head*
Why yes, yes it is.
See it. Hear it. Feel it. (See what I did there. Props to you D.Mills.)
Last but not least, let us not forget the HIP HOP UNIT'S REMIX. CAUSE SLAY. TRUTH SPILLED. TEA SIPPED. LIVES RUINED.
I DIDN'T ASK TO BE VERNON OR HIP HOP UNIT TRASH. BUT THEY CHOSE ME FOR THE JOB ANYWAY.
So have we learned our lesson?
Do you know the formula for more $$$?
Probably not, but who needs $$$ when you have Vernon's rhymes snatching your edges and giving your ears third degree burns.
Nah, but all jokes aside. Vernon really does show us the formula for more $$$.
"Fuck what they'd be talking bout, their opinion doesn't count."
He is literally telling us to forget what everyone else says. The haters, your friends, your family. If they don't support you and/or your dreams then who cares what they have to say. Your opinion is the only one that matters at the end of the day. As long as you do you and work hard, you'll be making more $$$.
