"Located in Bavaria near Füssen, Germany, is one of the most famous neo-Gothic castles. Built by Ludwig II of Bavaria in 1866, was originally known as the new Hohenschwangau, after the place where the king spent much of his childhood. Its name was changed after his death.
Ludwig II's descendants sold the castle to the Bavarian government, later passing into German. The amount by which they sold equal to current annual revenues derived from the castle tourists coming to visit.
He was elected by Disney as a model for the castle of Sleeping Beauty (1959).
The Free State of Bavaria has spent more than 14.5 million euros in Neuschwanstein for the maintenance, renovation and visitor services since 1990.
Neuschwanstein Castle participated in the election of the New Seven Wonders of the World, but did not win."
