It has, yet again, been quite some time since I last added a card, especially in my book edits collection, and I think it is about time I wrote something. This past month has been full of ups and downs, between family, friends, college decisions, and surviving high school, and soon some of those issues will be replaced by new issues. As I continue to go through life, I think it is important to remember these words by Oscar Wilde, because TV, movies, books, and fairytales never cease to fill our heads with the perfect idea of the bad guy going to jail and the good guy getting the girl, but that is not how life works. I am not a character in a fiction novel. My life is real, and because my life is real, I will experience joy, as well as pain, and that is okay, because that is the price one pays to live a real life. This threat of pain, though, challenges me to live while I can, to be brave, to be who I want to be, to try new things, and to never stop seeing the beauty in the life around me. I know you have all heard the song I Hope You Dance, because despite my addiction to punk rock, I have not only heard the song, but I have fallen in love with the song. The line "I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean" is so powerful to me. We go through our lives trying to become bigger and better, but at no point should we feel as though we are bigger than the world. Our lives are not fiction. We are not characters in a book. We may not get the 1st prize trophey, we may not save our siblings from disappearing into the altered past, and we may not save Buckey from himself, but that does not mean we shouldn't try, and we should always be in awe of the things we cannot accomplish.
