- K -eine weitere Geschichte-
Genre: Action, Super Power, Supernatural
Set in a world where history has taken a slightly different course from the one we're familiar with, K follows the story of a young boy whose life is caught in a psychic war between seven kings.
Ashinaka High School is known for its unique setting: the entire campus is built on an island. Yashiro Isana, aka Shiro, is having lunch with a cat on one of the school rooftops. After his lunch break, Shiro goes on an errand for his classmate Kukuri to prepare for their upcoming school festival, only to be chased by some intimidating-looking men.
Status: Completed (13 Episodes)
Man...where to begin with this one. A story about 7 kings, each with unique traits, powers and views. However, the peace between them is broken because of a murder of one of the Red king's clansman. K-Project does a fantastic job balancing mystery and action. As usual, a plot we haven't seen or experienced before but this somehow feels fresh and very unique compared to other animes with this style. For some reason it reminds me so much of the "Fate" series, with how intriguing the story is, the epic battles and the characters. This is an anime you'll end up binge watching BECAUSE of the plot.
This is the hardest section to write about as there are so many characters in it. There's the seven kings, the clansmen, friends, villain(s), family, etc. But the season focuses mostly on Shiro, Kuro and Neko. Shiro is the guy with the white hair. Kuro is the tall guy with long hair and Neko is the the girl dancing all over the place. Unfortunately I cannot say much about them because it would spoil the story. Putting that aside, the characters have great chemistry and backgrounds. Lastly, there's so much variety in the character department that it's impossible for anyone to not have at least one favorite, and also there's a lot of character development which is a big plus. For those who are wanna know, Neko is the fan favorite and you'll know why when you watch it.
My favorite section~ and for good reasons! I can only describe the music in this with EPIC! (and a little mysterious). The opening "KINGS" by ANGELA is the reason it got me hooked into it. As soon as I listened to it, it reminded me to "Fate/Zero". It has a very similar style and I feel that it's a good first impression which shows the viewer what it can offer. While the ending "Tsumetai Heya, Hitori" by Mikako Komatsu portrays beautifully the essence of this 1st season.
The voice acting is flawless but what really stands out in the music is the ambiance music. It's one of the best I've heard in my life but I might be being bias because it made me feel so nostalgic. The ambiance music is a mix of "Persona 3 &4", "Fate series" and "Final Fantasy" style soundtrack. I even looked for every new song I heard while watching the anime.
-Reasons to Watch-
I feel like I've said everything great about it but I'll summarize it here. The plot is somewhat common but they did a great job making it feel unique. The character development and variety makes every episode that much more intriguing and fresh, no dull moments. The soundtrack is (at least for me) nostalgic, beautiful and epic. Opening, ending, voice acting, all flawless. Another thing to note is that some people found the story a bit confusing but don't worry, just keep watching and everything will make sense.
Something I haven't mentioned yet is the crisp visuals. First of all, the art is incredible! It's so detailed and they did a fantastic job with the lighting. Most of the time is very dark which might not be for everyone but I'm a vampire so I loved it. The animation is good with awesome flashy visuals. However, I feel this was the biggest and only flaw of the anime. Sometimes the animation is off and it's very noticeable. It didn't bother me too much after a while, mostly because the anime was so good, but you will notice them pretty easily.
I was jumping everywhere when I found this anime (I watched it a year after its release) and has become one of my favorite since. If you're looking for a good action/mystery anime with an immersive plot, don't look any further, "K-Project" IS the anime for you.
Lastly, if you decide to keep on watching the series, here's the order to watch:
- K-Project (Season 1) Which is this one.
- K: Missing Kings (Movie) Make sure to watch this before Season 2 or it will not make sense.
- K: Return of Kings (Season 2) 13 episodes
People have mixed reviews about S2 but if you end up loving S1, you'll enjoy S2 as well. As for me, still loved it but I understand why some people hated it. The plot and feel is different and it got infected with the virus of fan-service and ecchi-ness that rule the anime world nowadays.
* Intriguing plot
* Great character synergy, development, etc.
* Crisp and beautiful animation
* Fantastic music
* Noticeable animation flaws
* Might be confusing to some
* The art and animation might not be for everyone
An almost flawless mystery/action anime that is praised for pretty much every element of what it has to offer!
Hope You Enjoy~
