What the Hell Happened Here?

You see that red cross mark above the actual necklace?

The chest in the pic belongs to Kevin Plaweki, catcher for the New York Mets. And how did he get a cross engraved on his chest?

Thanks to this guy, Noah Syndergaard.

We all know he can throw some nasty fastballs. But we didn't know it was that FAST. So here's what happend:
Syndergaard throws the ball. It hits the ground. Plaweki goes down to make the block, it hits his chest pad, and the shock travels through the pad, through his uniform, through his undershirt, and makes an imprint of a cross on Plaweki's chest.
That's how FAST and STRONG Syndergaard's ball is.

That's 99 miles for you.

It's not just his fastball, but his slider that's even nastier
Are you kidding me?

A letter to the Mets' owners
Dear Fred and Jeff Wilpon, Please resign Yoenis Cespedes. This shouldn't be too much to ask. The team's payroll is currently somewhere just above $100,000,000. And I know that seems like a lot. Honestly speaking, it is. But relatively speaking, it isn't very much at all. It should be higher. This is a big team in a big market coming off a big year. Spend some money. Please, we're begging you. You made a great move last year by bringing Cespedes in right before the trade deadline. You restored faith in a franchise whose fans needed some love. We have been through a lot in the past decade (and before then, too), and you gave us some indication that you were ready to help this team win. And guess what? It almost paid off. Cespedes turned into a superstar and a fan favorite overnight and turned the Mets from an average team into a potentially great one. With the pitching that this team has in place for the next few years, it won't take that much to push them over the edge and make them legit World Series candidates. But we need a hitter. Bad. Cespedes is that guy. You don't have to sign him to a massive deal of 6 years for $150 million. I understand your hesitation there - he's aging, and can make some silly mistakes in the field. But 2 years for $50-60 million should not be too much to ask. Not for this team. Not in this market. Not with this kind of potential. You see, without Cespedes, the Mets are somewhere on the outside of the top 10 teams in the league, even with their pitching. Without Cespedes, they are a much worse team than the one that made the World Series last year. Without Cespedes, the aging David Wright and the second-year Michael Conforto will be relied on for too much. Without Cespedes, there is a gaping hole in the middle of this lineup. With Cespedes, though, this team is among the league's best. No question about it. He's still on the market, and we should have signed him a long time ago. But there is still time to make amends. You can still take advantage of the strange free agent market right now and make Cespedes the offer that he wants - rumors have it that he wants to be back in New York - and turn these Mets into not only a team that we love, but a team that we believe in. Give us something to believe in. We've waited long enough, and we know how good this team can be. Let's make it happen. Signed, A Hopeful Mets fan

The 5 Strangest Superstition in Sports!
Hello sports fans! It's Friday the 13th! Here are some of the strangest superstitions in sports! Michael Jordan Michael always wore his UNC shorts under his NBA shorts. Thus, he wore longer shorts than his fellow players at that time. In the end however, his fellow players followed suit after the legend. Serena Williams Serena Williams is known for not changing socks once during a tournament. It sucks to wear a pair of socks for more than a day...imagine how it would feel to wear the same socks for an entire tournament! I guess Serena doesn't mind it considering the number of tournaments she has won. Brian Ulracher Brian Ulracher ate two chocolate chip cookies before every game. Maybe that was the secret to his muscular body. I think it'd be fair to call him the "Cookie Monster". Caron Butler Caron Butler was known to be an avid fan of Mountain Dew. He loved the drink so much that he drank before and during every game. During his UNC days, he asked his wife to pick him a 2-L bottle of the green stuff, and drank half of it before the game, and the rest during half-time. In 2007, the Wizards and NBA banned him from drinking it during games so he eventually quit the whole thing in 2009. Moises Alou This one has to be the most f*cked up one out of all of them. Moises Alou used to pee on his own hands to harden them! Should we see that as commitment to the game of baseball or just some pretty weird ass shit? Oh and by the way, don't try to harden your hands by peeing on them ladies and gentlemen, because doctors have confirmed that peeing on your hand doesn't harden them. It actually softens them. @jeff4122 @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @InPlainSight @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @salahabdalla @Moose892 @BrookieyElba @SamuelRodriguez @ValerieAlissaPa @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Jovi @Shippudenguy21 @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @Link4TW @ChriSingularis @sanazsanaz @WilliamBrown @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @TravisBeck @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @gatorchick96 @MatthewBoughton @MarcusJiles @BrandonMcNeil @MalikLawary @KyleBerke @manbungo2000 @DerekGumtow @havic @Straightshooter @PhilAnthony @Kirooken @yaakattackk @RodneyYoung @DreJones @JonathanKerns @bnzattoni @TravisManning @GalacticChakra @smothgreen @afxs @johnnolastname @ChristopherKenn @ChasePage @coreywriley91@MikeWolf @MrTenThirty @JasonNilsson @BrunoDutch @SherzTYC @krishntejanand @addri @ChrisStephens What was your favorite one from the list? Joe Maddon wins Manager of the Year
Not that this is terribly surprising, but it's newsworthy all the same: Joe Maddon is the National League's Manager of the Year. The Cubs went 97-65 this season, a year after going just 73-89. They made the playoffs via the Wild Card and progressed to the NLCS, where they were eventually swept by the Mets in four games. Maddon's presence with the team certainly went a long, long way to turning things around for one of the league's most troubled franchises. It's not all about Maddon, though - this Cubs team was nothing like the 2014 edition. The emergence of young future (and even present) superstars like Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber turned this team on its head. The youngsters, combined with amazing seasons by Anthony Rizzo and pitcher Jake Arrieta made the Cubs one of the most feared teams in the National League. Many had them picked to win the World Series before they ran into the piping-hot Mets in the NLCS. They met an unstoppable force and couldn't pull it off, but had a great season nonetheless. In a somewhat surprising move, the Mets' Terry Collins finished third in Manager of the Year voting behind Maddon and Mike Matheny of the Cardinals. Sure, the Cardinals finished with the best record in baseball, but if you ask me, what Collins did as manager was more impressive than Matheny's work. The Mets' head honcho took a minor league roster and guided them through a brutal first half of the season before picking up some huge mid-season acquisitions and turning on the style late in the season, reaching the World Series before falling to the Royals. Sure, none of this actually matters, and I think most people pretty much agreed that Maddon would win Manager of the Year. Many probably picked Collins to finish second ahead of Matheny, but that's just making an argument for no reason. So, there we have it baseball fans: Maddon, Matheny, Collins. Is this the right order? Would you have given the award to someone else? @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @SamuelRodriguez @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Link4TW @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @MalikLawary @KyleBerke @DerekGumtow @Straightshooter @Kirooken @TravisManning @GalacticChakra @ChristopherKenn @MrTenThirty @JasonNilsson @addri @GinnaL13 @VeronicaArtino @TomasVasquez
The Woman Who Struck Out Babe Ruth
And Lou Gehrig too. On April 2, 1931 the seventeen year-old Jackie Mitchell struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig back-to-back. They were arguably the deadliest hitting duo in baseball history, and she did it in only seven pitches. Which is pretty damn impressive. Less impressive is what happened afterwards. "They are too delicate. It would kill them to play ball every day." Ruth wasn't the most gracious in defeat (via), and some historians have dismissed the exhibition game as an April Fool's Prank. It's unlikely that Ruth would have been visibly upset if he struck out on purpose, nor would he have asked the umpire to inspect the ball. And a few days later, Mitchell's contract was voided on the basis that baseball was "too strenuous" for women. Yeah, beating some of the most famous players of all time sounds really strenuous. What if she broke a nail?! /sarcasm She kept playing anyway. So clearly the game wasn't TOO strenuous (she died in 1987 at the age of 74). She joined the amateur team House of David in 1933, and retired in 1937. Meanwhile, women weren't formally banned from the MLB until 1952, though unofficially they were often kept off the field. Such was the case for Eleanor Engle, who never took the field. The President of the minor leagues stated that no contract with a woman would be approved because “not in the best interest of baseball that such travesties be tolerated.” In the 1970s girls were allowed to join Little League, in the 80s women joined college baseball, and in the 1990s, Ila Borders joined the St. Paul Saints of the independent Northern League. But no female player has reached the majors (yet). But the 100-year anniversary of the time a teenage girl struck out some of the toughest hitters in baseball history. Maybe it'll happen again in 2031?
Harvey misses team practice, "I screwed up"
The Mets are made the playoffs for the first time in nine years. Tickets are already sold out and Queens is getting ready to welcome back playoff baseball. But they are not off to a great start. Yesterday, Mets ace Matt Harvey missed a mandatory team workout at Citi Field. His excuse? TRAFFIC! Manager Terry Collins said Harvey will be fined for missing mandatory team practice. But he said Harvey will not miss any games and went on to say, "This is minor. This isn't college, where he's going to miss the first quarter of a football game. I'm going to take care of it in-house. I deal with it one way. The players deal with it another way. He's going to get fined. It's no big deal. He's going to continue to pitch. He f----- up. People do that. He feels bad. The players will take care of it on their own. We don't need it. We need to try to stay as positive as we can." Harvey also apologize for his actions and said, "Basically, there's no excuse. I screwed up. I wasn't here. I showed up a little late." The Mets and Harvey haven't been getting along too well especially after the stint they had with Scott Boras, his agent, last month when Boras requested they don't have Harvey pitch more than 180 innings. Personally, I don't really give a damm whether Harvey was stuck in traffic or not. I don't care what he was doing before that. Baseball is a team sport. And if you have a mandatory team practice, you should not miss it under any circumstances, especially if you are the ace and center of that team that is contending in the postseason for the first time in nine years! I am really interested to hear what @jeff4122 has to say. Are you going to defend your best pitcher for missing "mandatory team practice"?
Back To The Future or the Curse of the Billy Goat?
Yes, the Cubs clinched a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Yes, They beat the Pirates in the National League wild card game. Yes, they clinched the NLDS against the St. Louis Cardinals. Now, they only have to beat the Mets to make it to the World Series. But there's something more to the Cubs' run for the World Series. As @LizArnone have mentioned in her card, "The Cubs Have Been Destined To Win The World Series Since 1989". In Back To The Future II time traveling Marty McFly ends up in 2015 with a holographic news story blaring the Cubs have just won the World Series. Thats something that hasn't happened since 1908! So can Back To The Future II beat break the famous Curse of the Billy Goat? The Curse of the Billy Goat was placed on the Chicago Cubs when Billy Goat Tavern owner, Billy Sianis was asked to leave the World Series game against the Detroit Tigers at Wrigley Field because his pet goat's odor was bothering other fans. As he was leaving the game, Sianis said, "Them Cubs, they ain't gonna win no more." And yes, the Cubs haven't won a World Series since 1908 nor have they been to one since 1945. The Cubs have been amazing this year so far under the leadership of manager, Joe Maddon. Even though they're two games down in the NLCS right now, they still have a chance to make a comeback and appear in their first World Series since 1945. But wait. Did you know that the goat that was forced to leave along with Billy Sianis was called Murphy? And.... Daniel Murphy, the hot-hitting Mets infielder, who was also the NLDS MVP when the Mets faced the Dodgers, hit a monster home run against Cubs' ace Jake Arrieta. Coincidence? Well, I'll leave it up to you to decide! Who do you think will come on top on this one? 1. Back To The Future II 2. The Murphy Brothers: Murphy the Goat and Daniel Murphy
