Don't fall prey to the idea that you need to please everyone. YOU DON'T! Nor should you try to. BE YOU! Embrace every nuance of what makes you, you. And then live that way, sharing it with others.
Sure, there will be haters, but there will also be lovers.
You are nobody's doormat. You have value because you are a human being.
Be blessed!

@marshalledgar thanks for tagging me. Sorry for this, but I completely disagree to this quote. This completely depends on who you prioritise more in your life, either self or the other ? and I do not think you lose your self respect by valuing others more than self. Also when it comes to people pleasing, I do not think there's something wrong in being more considerate of others feelings/likes than self and doing it all for them. Now coming to the quote - my decision to remain happy has no bearing to my attachment/detachment from anything, rather it should be of no reason. We SHOULD make a choice/decision to remain happy and should not attribute it to any factors. I have not lost my self respect by valuing others more than me, by pleasing others always, and neither have I gained self respect by walking away from something which no longer serves me, grows me or keeps me happy. I do not associate my self respect or happiness with any damn thing !!!

i think what it means is be true to yourself. for example I love playing with little kids but whenever one of my friends sees me with one of them she starts giving me a speech how I should let the mom take care of him. Meanwhile I sitting there thinking: it makes me happy to play with him so regardless of what she thinks I'll respect myself enough to keep playing with the little kid. 馃槉
