Trying to quit since 1679
The earliest record of a man trying to quit smoking is of Johan Katsu, Sheriff of Turku, Finland. On April 5, 1679, he wrote in his diary, "I quit smoking tobacco." He apparently died a month later, likely from lung cancer...
