"The gun 'rights' lobby can tell me the only answer to gun violence is more guns until they're blue in the face. It's utter nonsense." "Chicago's supposedly 'tough' gun laws are utterly pointless when states around it have weak gun laws. America needs to take federal action." --Piers Morgan this morning on twitter. I'm really glad to see Morgan as a voice of reason. Too many people are dying every day to brush this off. The fact that we can't get this done in congress is disgraceful.

Someone was telling me that in some countries you keep your guns at the police station and have to check them out for hunting or target practice. Lets do that. Now.
It's just a traditional point of view. People are adverse to change. Give an old farmer high tech equipment to help him manage his farm, and he would still probably go back to horse-drawn plow. These people feel uncomfortable about change, and I think we need to show them that change is not bad.
You may be right, but does it matter? Even if they're afraid of losing something isn't that just a "casualty of progress?"
Before you can judge gun advocates, you have to approach the argument from their point of view. I think they are less advocating a right to bear arms, and more of a fear of losing something. Not saying their aren't serious issues with procedures for purchasing weapons, but I think both sides need to understand each other point of view before a compromise can be made.
makes sense, i'll look into it and maybe post some stuff about the constitution, haven't read about that stuff since high school american history!
