From KpopINT....!Feliz cinco de mayo!

Que tal peeps!

I'm so happy to say ¡Feliz cinco de mayo! Do you celebrate this holiday? I know it has nothing to do with Kpop, but many of our Kpop amigos may celebrate this holiday with their families and friends. What is cinco de mayo?

"Cinco de Mayo—or the fifth of May—commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867)" (Source).

Mexico vs USA

"Traditions include military parades, recreations of the Battle of Puebla and other festive events. For many Mexicans, however, May 5 is a day like any other: It is not a federal holiday, so offices, banks and stores remain open" (Source). This was new information for me, because mi abulea goes all out on this day. I thought it was a big deal in Mexico since that's where our family is from. I guess mi abulea is just doing her own thing. In America you will see people in party celebrating this day. Maybe that is what influences mi abulea. You will see people celebrating Mexican heritage and having a good time. You will see some Mexican American homes making yummy dishes. I know at our family gatherings for this day we have tacos, tamales, and much more food.

Confusion!

Cinco de mayo is not Mexico's Independence day. That day is "September 16, the anniversary of the revolutionary priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla’s famous “Grito de Dolores” (“Cry of Dolores”)" (Source).

As far as I know, it's a bigger deal in the US than it is in Mexico. x)
