Research: Violent Video Games Does NOT Make a Person Anti-Social
http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0068382 In abstract, the research set out to see if violent video games really affect prosocial behavior (turning people anti-social), as some previous researches have concluded. To test this, the researchers made participants play various violent and non-violent games and examined their response to various inputs, such as the response to a person "accidentally" dropping a pen nearby, during the gaming session. Results showed that there were no correlation between the types of games the participants played, violent or non-violent, and response to various prosocial inputs. "We failed to find evidence that playing video games affects prosocial behavior. Research on the effects of video game play is of significant public interest," the researchers wrote. "It is therefore important that speculation be rigorously tested and findings replicated. Here we fail to substantiate conjecture that playing contemporary violent video games will lead to diminished prosocial behavior."
