"Favorite" questions are always tough! But, I do have a small subset of my completed anime that earn a spot in a kind of class of favorites. For this card, I think I'll feature the latest addition to this class and my most recent anime obsession, Assassination Classroom! A while back, a fellow Vingler proposed a watch party for this anime. I wish I could have joined in, but, sadly, I wound up being busy that day. I finally got around to checking it out on my own about a week ago, and I think I'm in love! I think the premise is completely absurd - the government allows a strange octopus-like creature to teach a class of misfit students and charges those students to assassinate their seemingly unkillable teacher before he destroys the earth after graduation.

Relationships and Duality

However, it somehow works spectacularly well! I absolutely adore the relationship between Korosensei (the students' nickname for their teacher derived from korosenai, meaning unkillable) and the students, and the duality of that relationship; everyone has 2 roles: student and assassin, teacher and target. Korosensei is actually a fantastic teacher who cares deeply for his students, and the students actually kinda love him as well, as he's undeniably the best teacher they've ever had, and it shows in their improving grades, combating the status quo that condemns them to the bottom of the heap. At the same time, the students are under tons of pressure to destroy this being for the sake of mankind, which actually plays nicely into their education as they go out of their way to research and come up with more and more creative ways to complete their mission.

And then there's the characters! How many shows could handle this many characters this adeptly? While there are, of course, some characters that are more significant than others, like this^ adorable and unsuspecting little f***er whom I love to death, each character gets their chance to shine! Everyone has their own special something to contribute. But at the same time, having all these well-rounded characters doesn't feel forced.

While this anime is plenty fun and goofy, it hits you with deep lessons when you least expect it. It's a nice, satisfying balance. I don't know what I was expecting with this anime, but it vastly exceeded those expectations! I actually plan to show this to my sister. She's not into anime, so I'm afraid she won't give it a chance because she falls victim to that mentality that anime are cartoons and thus for kids, but, as a teacher with experience with these kinds of misfit kids, I think that she would at least appreciate, if not enjoy, this anime.

Other Favorites

I thought I'd shine a little light on some of the other anime that have achieved "favorite" rank for you!

Fairy Tail

If you saw my card from yesterday, you know that Fairy Tail is one of my firsts and favorites! Anytime the "which world would you want to go to" question is posed, my answer is always Fairy Tail! The camaraderie, the feels, the fun, the fantasy, I love everything about Fairy Tail! If you wanna see a little more about my love for Fairy Tail, you can check out THIS CARD I made for the recent FTG challenge in the Fairy Tail community.

Soul Eater

Another first and favorite, I love this one for its quirks. The animation style is a little different from most other anime, which I love, and the madness motif is a very attractive feature for me. I'm so excited for the upcoming reboot!

Like with Assassination Classroom, this was one that I just kinda watched on a whim, wasn't sure what to expect, and fell in love! Like all great anime, it's got a great balance between humor and serious emotional content. My favorite character has definitely got to be my baby snowflake, Yukine; seeing how he's grown over just 2 short seasons just makes my heart swell! I haven't seen any news about a third season, but it needs to happen, and I can't wait to see how he and Yato continue to grow together!

Akame Ga Kill!

When it comes to anime, I am an emotional masochist. This anime repeatedly got me on the edge of my seat, unable to breathe, tears in my eyes, I-need-a-break, aching inside. Full marks for emotional turmoil.

Tokyo Ghoul

Like Akame Ga Kill!, Tokyo Ghoul gets high marks for emotional torture. I lost it when my sweet little lost-puppy Kaneki unraveled. I felt for him in his plight to make people understand, and seeing that hope die in him killed me inside. Based on what I've heard, Tokyo Ghoul is pretty close to the top of my must-read manga list.
So there's day 2! Hope you enjoyed! If you wanna learn more about me/ be my friend/ be tagged in these, please don't hesitate to ask! I'm nice, I swear (mostly ;p)! Or I guess you can follow my 100 Days of Anime collection, or both if you feel so inclined! Until next time!
