This was inspired by Jaebum's recent back injury and his ending speech at GOT7's first solo concert.
I got off the plane and hurried through the airport, running despite how absolutely exhausted I was. I didn’t sleep on the 14 hour flight, chewing my once pretty nails down to stubs as I worried about Jaebum. Anything could have happened in those 14 hours and I just wanted to make sure he’d take care of himself and get better without worrying about the fans or anybody except himself. As I got into a cab and gave him the address to the boys’ dorm and wiped my sweaty palms on my jeans before pulling out my phone and noticed the text messages he sent while I was on the plane.
I bit my lip as I remembered all the money that just went down the drain. I didn’t care about it, money is money. I’ll make more. Jaebum is my main concern. He would do the same exact thing if it was turned the other way around. I know he would.
Once we finally arrived at the dorm, I paid the diver and grabbed my bags from the trunk before rushing into the building and pounding on their door. Probably not a good idea to do at 6 in the morning, but I didn’t give a shit. My boyfriend was injured, I needed to see him.
The door opened to reveal a tired Jackson with massive bed head. He squinted his eyes at me before muttering something, then moving out of my way and letting me in.
“He’s in the living room, his back was hurting too much to go to bed last night.” He yawned, walking back to his room. I nodded and set down my bags before making a beeline for the living room where Jaebum was sitting uncomfortably, sleeping deeply, with a blanket sprawled across him. I sat down next to him and looked him over. Other than the uncomfortable look on his face, you would never guess he was in pain. I fought against tears as I mentally yelled at myself for not being here for him. Looking back at his face, I gently moved a piece of hair out of his face and gently caressed his cheek.
“He’s probably not going to wake up for a while, his pain meds knock him out.” Mark said, coming to sit next to me. His hair was a mess too.
“I’m sorry if I woke you up.” I apologized, looking over at him.
“It’s alright, I understand. We all had to get up soon anyway.” He said, patting my shoulder. “Did you sleep at all on the plane? You look exhausted. How long have you been up?”
“About….26 hours?” I answered, rubbing my face.
“You should sleep. I can wake you up when we’re getting ready to leave because Jaebum wanted us to wake him up so he could go with us.” Mark said, standing up and making his way to grab another blanket.
“No no. I’m fine.” I said quickly, looking at my sleeping boyfriend. I had to admit that I was fucking tired and sleeping sounded amazing, but I couldn’t convince myself that it was right to sleep.
“Dude, just sleep. It’s not like it’s your fault he hurt his back. Even if you were here, it would have still happened.” He said, walking back and chucking the blanket at me.
“Fine, wake me up in half an hour.” I said, moving away from Jaebum so I didn’t disturb him.
“Why? We’re not leaving for like an hour and a half.” Mark said, yawning.
“Because I don’t want to sleep that long. It’s only 2 pm in Oregon.” I said, making Mark roll his eyes.
“Alright, whatever.” He said, walking out of the room. I curled up in the corner of the couch and as soon as my eyes closed, I fell asleep. Soon, I felt hands softly shaking me awake. Lurching up, I hit my head with Yugyeom’s.
“Noona!” He exclaimed, holding his head in pain as I held mine.
“I’m sorry, Gyeom.” I apologized, opening my arms for a hug. He smiled, despite still holding his forehead and gave me a hug. “How have you been?” I asked, glancing over at Jaebum fidgeting in his sleep.
“I’ve been good, annoying the hyungs as usual. And Bam hyung has been helping out with that too.” He said, smiling evilly. “But why did you come back so early? You were supposed to come home in 2 weeks.”
“When I found out Jaebum oppa was hurt, I knew I needed to come back. He tried to convince me not to, but I was too worried. I’m not too worried about it, I can make the money back up and go on the trip again eventually.” I said, patting his arm, motioning for him to get up.
“It took you so long to make that money though.” Yugyeom said, standing up and following me to the kitchen where I started to make the 7 boys breakfast. He leaned against the counter and watched me yawn hugely before continuing to make the food. “When was the last time you actually slept, noona?” He asked, noticing the dark circles under my eyes. I just smiled tiredly at him.
“I’m fine, Gyeomie. I’ll sleep later.” I said, yawning again.
The smell of food and the sound of clanking dishes attracted Youngjae, Jinyoung, and Bam Bam. Markson were still hidden in their rooms, probably trying to get more sleep.
“Wha! What are you doing here?” Youngjae asked, walking over and hugging me tightly. “I missed you, my 96 liner buddy!” I laughed and patted his hands.
“Was that you this morning banging on the door?” Jinyoung asked, leaning on the counter beside me.
“Yeah…sorry about that.” I said awkwardly. “I guess I was just kind of panicking.
“Jaebum hyung said he got into an argument about you coming back last night, but I figured he convinced you to just stay on your trip.” Bam Bam said.
“There’s no winning an argument with that one, are you kidding me?” Jaebum’s voice came from the kitchen doorway.
“Oppa!” I exclaimed, staring at him just calmly standing there with a back brace on.
“I told you I was fine.” He scolded, walking over to me and kissing me lightly on the lips, causing the other boys to groan and walk out of the room.
“I know, but I was still worried. I know how you get and I was scared you’re going to hurt yourself even more.” I said, pouting and going back to cooking.
“Alright then, if you’re so worried and since you’re already here, why don’t you come with us and make sure I don’t overdo it? That way you get your way and I get to spend as much time as I want with you since you’ve been gone a week.”
“Deal.” I yawned. His face fell as he looked at me.
“You look exhausted.” He said, rubbing my cheek.
“Mmm, I’m fine.” I said, plating the boy’s breakfast.
“When’s the last time you slept, jagi?” He asked, looking at me closely.
“Don’t worry about it, I’m fine. I’ll sleep later. BOYS BREAKFAST IS READY!” I yelled, causing the 6 boys to enter the kitchen and start eating. “So what’s the plan today?” I asked them, eating my own food.
“We have to leave at 7:30 for rehearsal for the concert at 8 then whenever that’s over we get hair and makeup done then do the concert at 6.” Jinyoung said as the others shoveled the food into their mouths.
“Argh this tastes like heaven.” Jackson said.
“You act like you’ve been starving. Hasn’t your mother been feeding you?” I asked, motioning to Jinyoung. That caused a couple of the boys to laugh and spit food out by accident.
Once breakfast was done and washed up, the boys all got ready and we got into the GOT7 vans and made our way to the venue. 6 of the boys rode in one while Jaebum and I rode in the other one with a wheelchair set in the back so that he didn’t strain himself. I stared out the window as he held my hand and fought against the urge to pass out right then and there. The van was too warm and the quiet music that was playing on the radio didn’t help. Jaebum softly rubbed my hand with his thumb as if he was trying to lull me to sleep just by his touch. My eyes closed and my head fell forward before I lurched it back up and sat up straighter in my seat, shaking the tiredness from my head. I couldn’t sleep right now. Not yet. I have to admit, it’s much harder than I originally thought. Sleep kept tugging incessantly at me, but I refused to give in.
Once we got to the venue, Jaebum sat in the wheelchair and a manager pushed him in, despite my offer to do it myself. On the stage, Jaebum had a staff member grab a chair and set it on the stage for me to sit on while Jaebum monitored the rehearsal like the good leader he is. I just smiled at him and shook my head, knowing that once I sat down, I’d struggle against falling asleep again. However, the jet lag started to hit me really hard and it felt like my brain was turned to slush. It was getting harder to formulate complete, sensible sentences rather than tired babble.
“Jagi, sit down and take a little nap. I promise everything will be fine if you sleep for a little while.” Jaebum pleaded, holding my hand. The thought was so tempting, to be completely honest.
“No, I’m fine. I’ll sleep later.” I said, patting his head. I was starting to get that random energy boost that comes when you’re extremely sleep deprived, but you could pass out any second no matter how awake you felt.
“How’s about this? There’s a couch in the waiting room and once we finish rehearsal, you sleep until the show starts?” Jinyoung said, walking over and drinking from a water bottle.
“Fine.” I said, giving in.
“Great, we should be finished soon.” He smiled and walked back into his place.
Once the rehearsal was over, Jaebum sat on the couch and patted his lap for me to lay my head in so he could run his hands through my hair while I slept.
“I missed you, jagi.” I told him. He smiled and pecked my lips then motioned for me to lay down.
“I missed you too, now sleep.” He said.
Laying my head in his lap, I got probably the best nap I’ve ever had. The boys finished rehearsal around 11 and I finally fell asleep around 11:30, so I got 7 and a half hours of sleep. Jaebum got up a couple times to go to the bathroom and such, but I didn’t wake up once when he would move me. The boys all got their makeup and hair done then went to do the show after they woke me up and Jaebum and I watched from backstage, proud of our boys. When the show came to an end, Jaebum walked out to say the ending speeches with the rest of the boys.
“Actually, I also didn’t expect this, as we know good income comes with hard work, they did so well today. I feel so weird, I was supposed to stand here, singing together, but.. I feel so sorry to you guys. I will come back soon, don’t worry.” He started, fans starting to shout ‘it’s okay!’ back to him, making him smile before continuing, “This makes me more nervous than usual, hope everyone enjoyed the concert, we will have more concerts in the future, and I will be back soon. Oh yeah, everyone please take care of my kids.”
“There’s no one in charge of cool and sexy without you, hyung!” Jackson remarked, making everyone laugh.
“I will work hard to recover and come back with 2 times speed.” Jaebum finished, leading the boys in a bow. Jackson put his hands on Jaebum to keep him from overextending his back, but Jaebum pushed his hands away and bowed deeply. I grimaced at the look of it. I really hope that didn’t hurt him.
Finally after waving to the fans and saying their last goodbyes and the odd ‘I love you’ all of GOT7 walked backstage. I gave each of them a hug and praised their hard work. However when I came to Jaebum, I gave him a look saying I wanted to speak with him, which he nodded to.
Once all the boys were ready to go, we all got back in the vans and went back to their dorm, the ride from the venue completely silent between Jaebum and I. I stared out the window, looking out at the cold night, replaying Jaebum’s words over and over in my head. I didn’t actually say anything to him until we were back in the dorm and the boys decided they wanted to go get something to eat so the six of them left to go get takeout from somewhere.
“I need to talk to you.” I said, putting it simply. He sighed and nodded.
“Go ahead and yell at me.” He said. I felt tears fill my eyes again as I just hugged him softly. He froze, clearly not knowing what to do.
“You’re beating yourself over this so much. I hate it. I know how worried you are about the boys and fans, but I can tell you that all everyone wants is for you to take your time to get better. We don’t care how long it takes. Yes, I’ve seen some fans leave because you’re hurt but they don’t truly care about you. I love you so much and I don’t want you to hurt yourself even more trying to get better faster. Just take your time, please.” I sobbed, causing Jaebum to hold me tightly and nod into my hair.
“Thank you, jagi.”
