Joaquín Guzmán "El Chapo," or "Shorty" translated in English, has been transferred to a prison much closer to the US-Mexican border. If you're unfamiliar with El Chapo, he is a violent drug lord who heads the Sinaloa Cartel. He is serving time in prison for charges including drug trafficking.
The transferred occurred just outside of Cuidad Juarez, Mexico this pass Saturday.
"Moving him from one prison to another is one way of delaying any potentially successful escape plans, or they might have had some information that an escape plan had been hatched," Alejandro Hope, the security and justice editor at El Daily Post, told The Guardian.
El Chapo has escaped prison twice. His second escape was via fancy tunnel that went unnoticed. The impressive tunnel stretched a mile long, had lighting, and it was tall enough for El Chapo to take a nice, comfortable walk (no crawling for this guy!)
Hopefully he doesn't escape again.
