There's a hunger strike going on at Guantanamo Bay and some of prisoners are being fed against their will. Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) volunteers to go through standard Guantanamo procedure to protest the US government and to see what it feels like to be force-fed for The Guardian. By the end of the video we can see he's pretty torn up.. In addition to the nature of the force-feeding, being force-fed during Ramadan has also ignited anger. The video intends to shed light on the practices going on in Guantanamo Bay, and the obvious deprioritization of the prison by the US government. A lot of people are saying that the force-feeding is inhumane, while others are saying that Bey is putting on a performance for the camera...what do you think? Video directed by Asif Kapadia for The Guardian
yeah i MOSt DEFinitely (lol get it) agree with both of you! ...i'll see myself out now
I respect Mos Def for doing this. There should be awareness about the practices going on in Gitmo. Whether its fake or not, Having a plastic tube forcefully inserted through your nostril is not a pleasant experience.
This doesn't look fake, I think the whole practice is terrible. The ones we have evidence on should be moved to regular prisons (and trials) on US soil. The ones we don't have evidence on----should not be detained.
