{Playoff Challenge}: Penguins vs Lightning

The Eastern Conference Finals matchup is set between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Who will you pick? My personal prediction is Penguins in 7. Here are the rules: 1. For each round of the NHL and NBA playoffs, I will select one series for the challenge. The participants must pick the team they think will win and the number of games they think the series will be settled in. 2. If the team you selected wins the series, you get 2 points. 3. If the team you selected wins AND you correctly picked the number of games, you get an additional 2 points for a total of 4. 4. If your team wins but you are off on the number estimate by 1 game you get 1 point for a total of 3. 5. If your team wins but you are off by 2 or more games you receive no additional points for a total of 2 points. 6. If your team loses, you can earn a consolation point for either A) having the number of games right or B) if the series goes to 7 games. In this way, it is possible to earn anywhere from 0 to 4 points for each series for a maximum total of 32 points across 8 series (4 NHL, 4 NBA). Currently @DucktheFodgers is winning the NBA/NHL Playoff Challenge with 3 points across the first two challenges. His correct pick of the Sharks over the Kings is the only correct pick so far, since everyone else picked the Kings and nobody picked the Trail Blazers to beat the Clippers. This challenge is still wide open, folks! @mchlyang @shannonl5 @DavidGom @EvanYannetti @RodneyYoung @m3179035411 @alohadaine

[Miracle] Most Inspirational Speech in Sports History
Recently, I wrote a card about an emotional moment that gets me every time I watch the movie Remember the Titans. (If you guys haven't checked it out, you guys can check it out here ---> [Remember the Titans] Brother) And after hearing some feedback from all of you guys, I thought about the most inspirational moment in sports movies and this is what I came up with. Coach Herb Brooks' game speech before the Gold Medal match against the Soviet Union in the 1980 Winter Olympics. The Soviets undoubtedly had the best hockey team in the world at that time. The Soviet Union had won all the Winter Olympics ice hockey tournaments since 1960. And the 1980 Winter Olympics were to be made even more difficult because the U.S. - Soviet relations were at all-time lows due to the on-going Cold War. And when, the U.S. hockey team were to face the Soviet Union for the gold medal on their home ground (Lake Placid), you probably can imagine what was going through the minds of not only the players, but the entire country! So, in order to prep these college players for the biggest game of their lives, Coach Brooks spoke these words. "Great moments are born from great opportunity, and that's what you have here tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here tonight. One game; if we played them ten times, they might win nine. But not this game, not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight we stay with them, and we shut them down because we can. Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world. You were born to be hockey players—every one of you, and you were meant to be here tonight. This is your time. Their time is done. It's over. I'm sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey team the Soviets have. Screw 'em. This is your time. Now go out there and take it!" I feel like this is the most inspirational speeches of all time. What are your all-time favorite speeches in sports?
Love It Or Hate It: Live Sporting Events?
Welcome to the Funny Community game, Love It Or Hate It! This game is really similar to Monday's 'No Good or So Good' food game - except this one deals a lot more with non-food things. Every week, I highlight a different thing that a lot of people either really love or really hate and see how our community feels overall! Last week, I asked you how you felt about SELFIE STICKS. It was an EXTREMELY tight vote, but out of the 60 who gave your opinion, 33 of you said that they're actually kind of useful! Soooo... SELFIE STICKS WIN!!!! This week, I want to know: How do you feel about attending live sports games? Spectator sports have been around since the days of Ancient Greece, but the ones we know and love today came into being in the mid 19th century! The number of Americans that attend at least one live sporting event annually is easily in the tens of millions. However, the amount of them that find said sporting event COMPLETELY BORING is still widely unknown. How do YOU feel about spectator sports? Are they tons of fun or brutally boring? San Diego, get your shit together. Each year at the Padres stadium, Petco Park, the LGBT society in SD holds an event called "Out at the Park" that is meant to bring the community together for an evening of baseball. This year, Petco Park really, really screwed up. The San Diego Men's Gay Chorus was meant to sing the national anthem before the game to represent the LGBT community for this event. Their voices were never heard. The stadium let them take the field, and then as they were about to sing, a recorded female voice instead sang the anthem (which, if you've been to a Padres game, isn't something that happens - we always have live singing) The men had to walk off the field hearing people shouting profane, homophobic things at them. The Padres said it was a mistake, a technical error, a third party contractor, and that they were sorry. But that doesn't explain the other examples of mistreatment. Days prior to the game, the Padres organization told the performers that the chorus would have to pay for their tickets in order to sing. This is not something that happens, ever. If you perform the national anthem, you get to enter the park for free, DUH. Why did the Padres suddenly want this now? That would have cost the small organization thousands of dollars, and after dispute they were finally allowed in as performers. You can listen to their great voices here when they performed in 2015. It's a pity their voices weren't heard this year. Get it together Padres, you're a disappointment in baseball but don't be a disappointment to your entire community.

Vingle Sports News and Analysis: 11 February 2016
What's up fellow sports vinglers, it's your commentator @KyleBerke aka K-Boss here! Starting today I will be coming out with daily cards for my new Vingle Sports News and Analysis (VSNA for short) series. I'll be discussing the sports results of the day for American football, hockey, basketball, baseball, football, and tennis along with their impact on playoff and draft position. Without further ado, here is the first of many daily VSNA cards! There were only two games in the NBA today as we finally enter the all star break. The under card saw the Milwaukee Bucks handle the Washington Wizards at home 99-92. Milwaukee is currently at the bottom of a scrum of eastern conference teams trying to crack the playoffs and has back to back wins after dropping five straight Ls. Washington is still 2.5 games ahead of Milwaukee but they've struggled to find any consistency lately. They remain in tenth place in the eastern conference. Meanwhile, the Thunder blew out the Pelicans to become the third team this year to reach 40 wins before the all star break. It was an emotionally charged win for the Thunder, after assistant coach Monty Williams wife Ingrid passed away in a car accident on Wednesday. Players and staff around the league have offered support and condolences to Williams and his family. The well-liked assistant coach has five kids, so send thoughts and prayers for him and his family in this tough time. It was a big night in hockey. The Dallas Stars exacted revenge on the Chicago Blackhawks, beating them 4-2. Patrick Eaves had a hat trick and Kari Lehtonen had 44 saves in the road win, while Duncan Keith and Patrick Kane scored for the Blackhawks in the loss. Kane now has 33 goals on the season, but was overtaken by Alexander Ovechkin in the season goal column. Ovechkin had a hat trick to push his total to 34 on the season as the Capitals beat the Wild 4-3. Washington has a big lead in the race for the President's Trophy, with 84 points. Chicago and Dallas lead the west with 75 and 74 points respectively. For the rest of the scores: the Islanders dismantled the LA Kings 5-2, the Flyers blew out the Sabres 5-1, Columbus beat Anaheim in a shootout 4-3, Colorado topped the Ottawa Senators 4-3, Boston cruised past Winnipeg 6-2, and the Oilers bested the Leafs 5-2. The Islanders are currently in third place I in the Metropolitan division, and are trying to put distance between them and the Penguins. LA still has a seven point lead over San Jose for control of the Pacific division. Boston is now tied with Detroit for second in the Atlantic, and bounces back from their crushing 9-2 loss at home to the Kings. In tennis, 1st and 2nd seeds Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer both cruised into the Argentina Open quarterfinals with straight set victories. Nadal is looking to erase his recent struggles and the frustration of his first round exit at the Aussie Open by successfully defending his title in Buenos Aires. Nadal hasn't won a title since August of last year and only won 3 in all of 2015, including the Argentina Open. That's all for today, folks! Let me know in the comments if you want to be tagged in future VSNA cards. Also let me know if you'd like me to include college sports in future cards. I don't really know how many of you are into college basketball, baseball, or hockey but I can definitely cover those if there is interest. Give me feedback so I can improve this series. Thank you and see you tomorrow!
