I've played a shitload of games in my life. Many very good ones, games that I hold dear to my heart as iconic to my childhood or as games that signify art in my estimation. Though even among those great games I thoroughly enjoyed, some of them are nonetheless plagued with terrible gaming cliches.
One of which I hate the most among these cliches is the notion of splitting slime enemies. You know the ones, like in the gif above. They turn up in any number of games across every platform imaginable, and they're always the dumbest fucking things.
HERE'S A WEIRD SENTIENT SLIME. FIGHT IT.
OHHOHOHOHOH NOW IT'S TWO SENTIENT SLIMES.
NOW IT'S FOUR, FUCK YOU WE'LL KEEP GOING TIL THE SMALLEST POSSIBLE PIXELS.
Seriously. I was just watching my friend's little sister play the new Ratchet and Clank reboot on PS4 and there are STILL GIANT SPLITTING SLIMES. Even now in the modern era of gaming.
It's nonsensical and I think devs need to come up with fresher ideas by now.
