Cloud (Yes, Cloud Strife) is Coming to Super Smash Bros.
I never thought I'd see the day either, Cloud. Many of us gamer-nerds like to fancy Final Fantasy VII as one of the best RPGs we've ever played. Of course we can retroactively say, well it's not that good (or whatever), but at the time our tiny little mashed potato bodies enjoyed every little drop of that beautiful RPG gravy (sorry, I'm kind of hungry). I think one of the conversations I've had multiple times with a bunch of different people (aka friends) is the conversation of Cloud being in Smash. And we all thought it was probably impossible. You know, since Nintendo owns Smash and Cloud is a Sony character and all, I -- along with all of my friends -- assumed that there was no chance that we'd be able to play as him in the game. But somehow, (probably with a bunch of money) Nintendo managed to get Cloud in the game, and boy he looks like a character I'd want to learn and use exclusively (sorry, Mega Man, I still love you). And I'm unsure of what exactly his Final Smash is. It seems like that portion of the trailer has him using materia to summon those classic summons (I can't remember any of their names but I do remember all of them, I know, I'm terrible. Fuck off) but he also seems to be capable of doing Limit Breaks. I tried my best to take a screenshot of one starting up (above) but it might be better if you just watch the trailer over and over again. There still isn't any news on when Cloud will be available and how much he'll cost (since he's DLC and all) but it seems like Nintendo is planning a special Smash Bros. presentation in December so I'd assume we'll be hearing more about this whenever that presentation happens.
Ratchet and Clank are Getting a Movie, Trailer and Release Date Announced
Everyone. Listen here and stop what you're doing because Ratchet and Clank (the video game series) is getting a movie. I grew up playing these games with friends and one of the major things we'd say about it is that it feels like we were playing an animated movie. And it looks like we're finally going to get to watch that movie in April 2016. And after watching the trailer, I think that this movie might be able to break the old "video-game-movie-adaptation-curse" that's be plaguing most video game movies. Now that a bunch of us are a lot older than we were, I'm worried that the trailer might bug some of my friends because it looks so "childish". After watching the trailer (above) a couple times, it's obvious that the studio behind the movie is trying to create an "all-ages" style movie using the lore from the game as a foundation. And honestly, I think that it's a great way to approach the movie adaptation. Sure, some of the lines are kind of cheesy (especially the "kick some asteroid" line at the end) but it's still looks like something both kids and adults can enjoy. I know I'm going to try my best to go see this movie with some younger relatives of mine for two reasons. The first being that I want to introduce them to two iconic video game characters through a fun, animated movie. And the second is, well, really self-serving. I can still remember walking into an old friend's house as he had one of the Ratchet and Clank games on pause. He quickly ran back to the couch to start it up and staring at the visuals on a 40-inch flat-screen TV, I felt like I was in the future. I know how dumb that sounds but these games in particular were a part of pushing video game technology to where they are now. It truly did feel like we were playing a full CG movie. It was fun to explore and go through the levels. It felt like an original, living, breathing world and I hadn't seen anything like that prior to playing these games. I hope that the movie lives up to all the excitement I have for it when I get a chance to see it sometime in April 2016.
