New Baseball Trick?

Yadier Molina is one of the best catchers out there.

He can lead his pitchers to fool batters and throw out runners on base. That's how good he is. And sometimes, he even develops some tricks with his pitchers to make the game more interesting.

This is one of his newest tricks that he developed with Cardinals pitcher, Trevor Rosenthal.

None of the runners even had the chance to advance to the next base. Some of you guys might be thinking, "Was that really intentional?" Of course it was. I mean it's Yadier Molina. He was definitely just using the home-team advantage of Busch Stadium.

Intentional or not, that was a cool play haha
Trevor Rosenthal is no longer the pitcher he used to be......
Hahaha I agree with you that Molina is a great catcher but I wouldn't say that was intentional haha

Cubs eliminate Cardinals and move on to NLCS
It's a sad day in St. Louis. No, seriously. Cashiers at grocery stores work without smiles. The city is in a haze - you can almost taste it. This means a lot to St. Louisians. The Cardinals - owners of baseball's best record for virtually the entire season - were eliminated from the playoffs at the hands of the red-hot Chicago Cubs. What happened? The best team won, that's what happened. The truth is that the Cardinals were a gritty team all year, but without Yadier Molina and Carlos Martinez (their only true ace), who both got injured at the very end of the regular season, they were a team without real punch. The Cubs, on the other hand, look like they might be the best team in baseball. They dominated the Cards in four games, smacking an MLB record 9 home runs in a span of just two playoff games. This team hits the absolute lights out. With rookie phenoms Kyle Schwarber and Kris Bryant, not only are the Cubs crushing it now; they look like they're built for the future, too. Oh, yeah: winning in four games also means they get to get extra rest for the best pitcher in baseball. Also on the Cubs. With the Mets and Dodgers not playing until Thursday, Arrieta will get at least a few more days rest before being ready to go in Game 1 of the NLDS, regardless of who he faces. That's trouble for the opponent. I know I picked the Cubs to win the series before it started, but I didn't expect them to completely dominate like they did. They look scary good. I wouldn't want to face the Cubs right now. No matter who I am. I'm not sure they can be beaten - maybe this is finally their year? Or is it too soon to say? @christianmordi @mchlyang @ljk901023 @TessStevens @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @jokes @DonnaMelton @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @SamuelRodriguez @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Shippudenguy21 @RosePark Can the Cubs really get it done?
The Woman Who Struck Out Babe Ruth
And Lou Gehrig too. On April 2, 1931 the seventeen year-old Jackie Mitchell struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig back-to-back. They were arguably the deadliest hitting duo in baseball history, and she did it in only seven pitches. Which is pretty damn impressive. Less impressive is what happened afterwards. "They are too delicate. It would kill them to play ball every day." Ruth wasn't the most gracious in defeat (via), and some historians have dismissed the exhibition game as an April Fool's Prank. It's unlikely that Ruth would have been visibly upset if he struck out on purpose, nor would he have asked the umpire to inspect the ball. And a few days later, Mitchell's contract was voided on the basis that baseball was "too strenuous" for women. Yeah, beating some of the most famous players of all time sounds really strenuous. What if she broke a nail?! /sarcasm She kept playing anyway. So clearly the game wasn't TOO strenuous (she died in 1987 at the age of 74). She joined the amateur team House of David in 1933, and retired in 1937. Meanwhile, women weren't formally banned from the MLB until 1952, though unofficially they were often kept off the field. Such was the case for Eleanor Engle, who never took the field. The President of the minor leagues stated that no contract with a woman would be approved because “not in the best interest of baseball that such travesties be tolerated.” In the 1970s girls were allowed to join Little League, in the 80s women joined college baseball, and in the 1990s, Ila Borders joined the St. Paul Saints of the independent Northern League. But no female player has reached the majors (yet). But the 100-year anniversary of the time a teenage girl struck out some of the toughest hitters in baseball history. Maybe it'll happen again in 2031?
MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/13/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Jason Heyward (St. Louis Cardinals) The Cardinals' nightmare has finally come to an end. Cards' defense was exceptional today with Yadier Molina throwing out NL basestealing leader Billy Hamilton. But the MVP goes to Heyward for snagging Ivan De Jesus Jr.'s home run especially when the game was still in doubt. Heyward learned his lesson on Saturday when Adam Duvall's two run homer bounced off the top of the wall. The Cardinals beat the Reds 9-2. 4. Khris Davis (Milwaukee Brewers) If only the Brewers have won, this guy would have been the Man of the Match. Khris Davis robbed a homer from Francisco Cervelli and kept his team going. He not only robbed that homer, he blasted a two-run homer the next inning to keep the Brewers alive. Despite an amazing performance both defensively and offensivley by Davis, the Brewers lose to the Pirates 7-6 in the 11th inning. 3. Brian Bogusevic (Philadelphia Phillies) The Phillies' right fielder, Brian Bogusevic, and his fully extended diving catch robbed Dexter Fowler's potential double. You could see starting pitcher, Aaron Harang, show his appreciation with an air-five! With Bogusevic's amazing play, the Chicago Cubs lost to the Phillies (the worst team in the MLB) 7-4. 2. Lonnie Chisenhall (Cleveland Indians) The Indians' Right Fielder made this impressive play in deep right field. It was an all out diving effort all the way to the warning track and stole a possible double, or even a triple away from Rajai Davis. Despite Justin Verlander starting for the Tigers' mound, Detroit lost to the Tribe 7-2. 1. Brandon Barnes (Colorado Rockies) And the number one play from last night's games come from Brandon Barnes of the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies' left fielder not only made a phenomenal play, he made that play into a double play. This was the game-winner for the Rockies as they topped the Seattle Mariners 3-2. Barnes said he felt a bit dizzy after he slammed his head into the ground but he kept his focus to sling the ball to first and throw out Ketel Marte. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! Joe Maddon wins Manager of the Year
Not that this is terribly surprising, but it's newsworthy all the same: Joe Maddon is the National League's Manager of the Year. The Cubs went 97-65 this season, a year after going just 73-89. They made the playoffs via the Wild Card and progressed to the NLCS, where they were eventually swept by the Mets in four games. Maddon's presence with the team certainly went a long, long way to turning things around for one of the league's most troubled franchises. It's not all about Maddon, though - this Cubs team was nothing like the 2014 edition. The emergence of young future (and even present) superstars like Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber turned this team on its head. The youngsters, combined with amazing seasons by Anthony Rizzo and pitcher Jake Arrieta made the Cubs one of the most feared teams in the National League. Many had them picked to win the World Series before they ran into the piping-hot Mets in the NLCS. They met an unstoppable force and couldn't pull it off, but had a great season nonetheless. In a somewhat surprising move, the Mets' Terry Collins finished third in Manager of the Year voting behind Maddon and Mike Matheny of the Cardinals. Sure, the Cardinals finished with the best record in baseball, but if you ask me, what Collins did as manager was more impressive than Matheny's work. The Mets' head honcho took a minor league roster and guided them through a brutal first half of the season before picking up some huge mid-season acquisitions and turning on the style late in the season, reaching the World Series before falling to the Royals. Sure, none of this actually matters, and I think most people pretty much agreed that Maddon would win Manager of the Year. Many probably picked Collins to finish second ahead of Matheny, but that's just making an argument for no reason. So, there we have it baseball fans: Maddon, Matheny, Collins. Is this the right order? Would you have given the award to someone else? @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @SamuelRodriguez @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Link4TW @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @MalikLawary @KyleBerke @DerekGumtow @Straightshooter @Kirooken @TravisManning @GalacticChakra @ChristopherKenn @MrTenThirty @JasonNilsson @addri @GinnaL13 @VeronicaArtino @TomasVasquez
Here's the full MLB playoff schedule
It's playoff time! Who's excited? I know I am - and I bet my fellow baseball fans are too! @mchlyang @christianmordi @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl !! Let's take a look at the Wild Card and NLDS schedule. It all gets started this Tuesday at 8PM ET as Houston travels to the Bronx to face the Yankees. The Yankees could have a tough time with the AL Cy Young frontrunner and 20-game winner, but it should be an intense game one way or the other. Win or go home! In the NL Wild Card, the Cubs face the Pirates in Pittsburgh at 8PM ET on Wednesday. This game also features a likely Cy Young winner, as Jake Arrieta will look to continue his masterful second half and knock out the Cubs' division rivals. After those Wild Card games are settled, we enter into the Division Series. Each series is a 5-game set, with the team with home field advantage playing host in games 1, 2, and 5. Both sets in the National league follow the same schedule of games. New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers St. Louis Cardinals vs. [winner of Pittsburgh vs. Chicago] Game 1 - Friday [@ LA/St. Louis] Game 2 - Saturday [@ LA/St. Louis] Game 3 - Monday [@ NY/Pittsburgh or Chicago] Game 4 - Tuesday [@ NY/Pittsburgh or Chicago] Game 5 - Thursday [@ LA/St. Louis] There's lots of intrigue in the American League, too. San Diego, get your shit together. Each year at the Padres stadium, Petco Park, the LGBT society in SD holds an event called "Out at the Park" that is meant to bring the community together for an evening of baseball. This year, Petco Park really, really screwed up. The San Diego Men's Gay Chorus was meant to sing the national anthem before the game to represent the LGBT community for this event. Their voices were never heard. The stadium let them take the field, and then as they were about to sing, a recorded female voice instead sang the anthem (which, if you've been to a Padres game, isn't something that happens - we always have live singing) The men had to walk off the field hearing people shouting profane, homophobic things at them. The Padres said it was a mistake, a technical error, a third party contractor, and that they were sorry. But that doesn't explain the other examples of mistreatment. Days prior to the game, the Padres organization told the performers that the chorus would have to pay for their tickets in order to sing. This is not something that happens, ever. If you perform the national anthem, you get to enter the park for free, DUH. Why did the Padres suddenly want this now? That would have cost the small organization thousands of dollars, and after dispute they were finally allowed in as performers. You can listen to their great voices here when they performed in 2015. It's a pity their voices weren't heard this year. Get it together Padres, you're a disappointment in baseball but don't be a disappointment to your entire community.

MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/20/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Matt Duffy (San Francisco Giants) A ground ball hit slowly on the third baseline wasn't going to stop Matt Duffy make this amazing play! He made the throw across his body and retired Nick Ahmed to end the inning. The ball looked like it was going to be an infield hit but Duffy made this exceptional play and let the Giants to a 5-1 win over the Diamondbacks. 4. Chase Utley (Los Angeles Dodgers) The ball was shot up the middle but Chase Utley smothered the ball and made a perfect throw on one knee to first to get the out! The 36 year-old veteran has shown strong defense throughout his entire career and this was just one more play that he added to his repertoire. The Dodgers however fell to the Pirates 4-3. 3. David Murphy (Los Angeles Angels) A strong line drive was hit to left field but David Murphy wasn't going to allow any hits. Murphy chased the ball, lunged for it, and made a beautiful diving catch to end the inning. HIs team however fell to the hot Twins 8-1. 2. Eugenio Suarez (Cincinnati Reds) Eugenio Suarez backhanded that ball and it was a long throw to first. It seemed like a very close call but the first base umpire first ruled the play safe. Reds manager Bryan Price however wasn't going to let it go without a challenge. And after a video review, the decision was overturned and his amazing play even got better with that out. It's always so tough to get a lot out of a throw like that but he made it into a perfect play. The Reds however lost 8-4 against the Milwaukee Brewers. 1. Jason Heyward (St. Louis Cardinals) It was a fly ball lifted into right field. Heyward however wasn't going to be satisfied with just one out. He throws a laser beam to home plate and gets it in time for two outs. He got into a perfect throwing position, it was a perfect throw, and he wowed everyone with a double play. And the Cardinals who are the number one ranked team in the MLB, beat the Chicago Cubs, the third best team in the MLB 4-3. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! The slow death of the fan forum
Way back before the web turned into the behemoth it presently is, football fanzines were the objective for fan remark and conversation. Back during the 1990s, Football Forums started to succeed and develop, with very much run autonomous locales viably supplanting fanzines in the mind of football fans hoping to impart their insights and talk about their clubs with their kindred fans. Yet, a look at fan discussions nowadays (and the fan forums for my own club, Gillingham FC, specifically) recommends things are particularly on the wind down. The football gathering is gradually vanishing, and it’s bit by bit being supplanted by web-based media. Before we shut it down last year the Gills365 Forum was performing unequivocally contrasted with different Gills forums out there, yet it was as yet in consistent decay contrasted with past seasons as far as the volume, profundity and level of conversation. Taking a gander at different discussions apparently to be a comparative story, with just a modest bunch of clients — and sometimes only a few — giving the main part of the movement on the loads up. Also, the actual club shut down their discussions subsequent to letting what was before a flourishing local area separate and vanish through an absence of consideration. 10 years prior certain Gills discussions would handily pull in more than 200–300 posts each week. A little while these days you could separate that number by 10. The justification for this can be found in the manner individuals utilize the web to impart nowadays. Forums may have been the go-to places for all football visits and discussion, thinking back to the 1990s and mid 2000s, however we now live in the realm of web-based media, and the conversation has moved to organizations like Facebook and Twitter. Facebook bunches permit a comparable assemblage of fans on an objective page, however with an all around perceived stage and without the requirement for any kind of specialized nous. Setting up a gathering page is simple, and on the off chance that you can get individuals you need onto it routinely, you’ll have a hive of conversation and action in two or three weeks. Then, at that point there’s Twitter. It’s my online media outlet of decision, and is significantly more prompt and live than Facebook. Twitter dominates during live occasions, as fans can in a flash share their interpretation of occasions, as they occur, and continuously. It’s something we exploited effectively on Gills365, which was the principal Gills outlet anyplace to accept online media. Our #gills365 hashtag demonstrated tremendously well known during matches specifically, with fans at the ground tweeting their updates adding #gills365 to their tweets to allow ousted allies to finish the activity with a totaled feed of the multitude of inhabitant fans’ updates. All the more as of late fans have begun making their own networks on Facebook, and there are several very much upheld conversation bunches on Facebook where individuals can impart their perspectives to individual fans. The two stages have a lot to bring to the table. Facebook offers all the more a local area building angle, though Twitter is considerably more ‘at the time’. The development in prominence of both has implied football fans have floated towards them, as opposed to fan gatherings, for their football conversations. Twitter permits fans the chance to peruse and react straightforwardly to writers, media sources and even players themselves, and has given an additional measurement to the game as those columnists and players who decide to do so assist with narrowing the hole between the expert game and its fans. With Facebook offering suitable, free, options in contrast to gatherings, and Twitter offering the capacity to remark and impart insights live and continuously, the time of the fan discussion would seem to have passed.
The 5 Strangest Superstition in Sports!
Hello sports fans! It's Friday the 13th! Here are some of the strangest superstitions in sports! Michael Jordan Michael always wore his UNC shorts under his NBA shorts. Thus, he wore longer shorts than his fellow players at that time. In the end however, his fellow players followed suit after the legend. Serena Williams Serena Williams is known for not changing socks once during a tournament. It sucks to wear a pair of socks for more than a day...imagine how it would feel to wear the same socks for an entire tournament! I guess Serena doesn't mind it considering the number of tournaments she has won. Brian Ulracher Brian Ulracher ate two chocolate chip cookies before every game. Maybe that was the secret to his muscular body. I think it'd be fair to call him the "Cookie Monster". Caron Butler Caron Butler was known to be an avid fan of Mountain Dew. He loved the drink so much that he drank before and during every game. During his UNC days, he asked his wife to pick him a 2-L bottle of the green stuff, and drank half of it before the game, and the rest during half-time. In 2007, the Wizards and NBA banned him from drinking it during games so he eventually quit the whole thing in 2009. Moises Alou This one has to be the most f*cked up one out of all of them. Moises Alou used to pee on his own hands to harden them! Should we see that as commitment to the game of baseball or just some pretty weird ass shit? Oh and by the way, don't try to harden your hands by peeing on them ladies and gentlemen, because doctors have confirmed that peeing on your hand doesn't harden them. It actually softens them. @jeff4122 @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @InPlainSight @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @salahabdalla @Moose892 @BrookieyElba @SamuelRodriguez @ValerieAlissaPa @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Jovi @Shippudenguy21 @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @Link4TW @ChriSingularis @sanazsanaz @WilliamBrown @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @TravisBeck @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @gatorchick96 @MatthewBoughton @MarcusJiles @BrandonMcNeil @MalikLawary @KyleBerke @manbungo2000 @DerekGumtow @havic @Straightshooter @PhilAnthony @Kirooken @yaakattackk @RodneyYoung @DreJones @JonathanKerns @bnzattoni @TravisManning @GalacticChakra @smothgreen @afxs @johnnolastname @ChristopherKenn @ChasePage @coreywriley91@MikeWolf @MrTenThirty @JasonNilsson @BrunoDutch @SherzTYC @krishntejanand @addri @ChrisStephens What was your favorite one from the list?
