70s headband aka flower child headband was part of the social movement of free-thinking hippie generation. Natural and careless was their motto. Many girls wear their hair long and straight. Headband was added to create variation.
Sometimes scarves are replaced by elastic headband. It could be tied back or styled on the side. The design of the scarves and headband are usually bright and colorful.

In addition, men also started to embrace the long hair trend and the headband eventually made it to the sports wear as a sweatband in the late 70s.
