This is a great episode of This American Life, the podcast that I have put recommended a few times. This breaks down how the average legislator spends their time--unsurprisingly, a huge percentage is dedicated to raising money. But I was shocked when I saw just how many fundraisers they go to. There's also a segment about how Citizens United vs. FEC has brought Super PACs into our political system. Spoiler alert: Citizens United didn't help reduce legislative fundraising obligations.
