Sword Art Online

I think SAO wins this one because it kind of inspired the career path I've chosen to pursue. I knew I wanted to go into something computer based because that's just kinda what my brain meshes with, but I wasn't really sure where I wanted to go with it. The virtual reality technology featured in SAO and the potential applications of the technology are extremely intriguing to me.

Honorable Mentions

This was a bit weird to think about, especially since I've only been really into anime for a few years. I'm sure each anime has impacted me and been absorbed into my identity in some way or another without my even noticing!

Fairy Tail

Fairy Tail changed me in a few ways, less concrete and obvious than SAO. The most obvious is that I think Fairy Tail gets the most credit for turning me into an otaku. It is also the only fictional world to affect me so deeply that I've wished it was real and/or that I could be a part of it and believe I always will. I think it's also helped me to be more comfortable with myself and let my freak flag fly, because I know I'll find someone who accepts me with all my quirks and flaws, and those are the people who will be most important, the only ones worthy of me!

I think this is the greatest example of the positive power that the internet can hold. The way the Dollars are such a community even though no one really knows each other, and can work together to achieve great things is so cool to me! Social media is so much more than just a stupid way to broadcast every thought that comes to mind! It can bring total strangers closer together, like here on Vingle!
As always, hope you enjoyed! If you wanna learn more about me/ be my friend/ be tagged in these, please don't hesitate to ask! I'm nice, I swear (mostly ;p)! Or I guess you can follow my 100 Days of Anime collection, or both if you feel so inclined!
Until next time!
This was my first anime that I enjoyed that explained and used future technology like the VMMORPG system. I am an old schoool gamer myself (Mario, Sonic, Zelda) and don't usually play alot of MMORPG's but after I watched SAO, I found myself more intrigued into this type of gaming and technology. If you enjoyed the anime for this reason, then you would enjoy the light novels even more. They go into much further depths and explanations on the technology behind the world of SAO. And the new arc, Alicization furthers into this topic...I find myself re-reading paragraphs because some of it goes over my head lol. But for someone who is into computers, I think you would enjoy the reading :)
I have only been watching anime for a few years too but I can also definately name some anime that changed my life and changed me. Fairy Tail and SAO are on that list for me too!!! And if u/anyone is interested in a good mmorpg I recommend Blade and Soul!!! i just started playing it a month ago and I am totally hooked!!! i have tried mmorogs before but they never turned out to be as good as i expected...if you play join the Yunwa server! (that's the one I'm on :D)! It has the NICEST ppl imo. so many other players helped me when i didn't understand something or couldn't complete a dungeon!
@alliepetey absolutely, will do!
@OtakuDemon10 yes! The novels explain so much more! Not just more on the technology but also the characters themselves as well.
