There are a few ways this question could be interpreted, and I'm not sure what the intent was, so I'll go at it from a couple different angles. Let's be mature about this, shall we? Speaking of mature, don't worry about treading softly; I kept this card clear of mature content ;)
I'm not too fond of the yaoi/yuri genre because it tends to get ecchi, and that tends to make me a bit uncomfortable. What can I say? I'm still relatively innocent in that respect. However, I have been sampling some of the yaoi genre in preparation for day 59, and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised (there's one I started recently that's super weird, yet strangely addictive...). It's just a bit delicate because I think that there should be some context that makes some sort of sense, you know? I guess that kinda goes against the term's origin (yaoi is an acronym of Yama nashi, Ochi nashi, Imi nashi, meaning "no climax, no point, no meaning," apparently. *cue rainbow* The More You Know!), but for me, it has to happen organically; yaoi for yaoi's sake to me is just kinda trash. I haven't come across an example of this yaoi trash, but that's from a teeny tiny sample size of about three, so grain of salt.
As a More General Concept
Though I'm apprehensive about the genre of yaoi/yuri, I am very accepting of the concept in general, most notably shipping. I don't mean to get pseudo-political or anything, but love is love, and gender doesn't really hold much meaning to me, especially when it comes to anime ships. Most of my ships do tend to be hetero, but I have a handful of strong same sex ships, like SasuNaru (though I also support NaruHina) and RukiHime (though I also support IchiRuki). And I very much enjoy fanart of these kinds of ships, even those I'm not so supportive of, like Shizaya. I do consider some popular yaoi ships to fall a little into that yaoi trash category, but I'm not super against it.
Just like anything else, it can be good, and it can be bad, so I judge on a case by case basis. Statistically, I think I fall mostly on the pro side, so far.
As always, hope you enjoyed! If you wanna learn more about me/ be my friend/ be tagged in these, please don't hesitate to ask! I'm nice, I swear (mostly ;p)! Or I guess you can follow my 100 Days of Anime collection, or both if you feel so inclined!
Until next time!
