Stand Your Ground Law Encourages Murder?
Many in Florida would like to repeal the Stand Your Ground laws that were significant in the recent acquittal of George Zimmerman (who shot and killed unarmed Trayvon Martin). The bill "encourages people to shoot their way out of situations and that's not how we live in a civilized society...It's a mentality of shoot first" I completely agree. The fact that these laws are on the books in 20 states changes the relationship between the individual and the state. In my political science classes I learned that a state has a "monopoly on the use of force" Is this still present if citizens can kill each other when deadly force is unnecessary? I'd like to get your thoughts on this one.

Great description @blackmage thanks for clarifying this. Don't you think its a poor choice to expand this 'castle exception' to public places

@curtisb I believe it is a terrible choice. I guess they assumed that since the majority of people living in Florida are over 60+ they wouldnt have many people taking advantage of it.
