Pentagon Lays out Military Option in Syria
In a three page unclassified letter to the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, General Martin Dempsey laid out the costs and difficulties of a US military intervention in the Syrian civil war. Acknowledging that without more action, President Bashar Al Assad will be in power for the foreseeable future, it is clear that The United States really has no good options. Intervention would take hundreds of planes and ships, along with thousands of special forces soldiers. The price tag---at least a billion per month. The President will not commit to this, which is understandable, but tragic for the people of Syria.
