This Happens To Me All The Time.
When I used to work at a drive-thru, it was the absolute worst when the customer at the pick-up window was trying their best to small talk with you while they waited for their order.
Customer: "Beautiful day outside, isn't it!"
Me: "What?"
Customer: "It's really nice outside!"
Me: "I'm sorry. Can you repeat that?"
Customer: "Nice day!"
Me: "............................................................Yes."
Normally this method works for me. Well, except for that one time I was going through airport security and the TSA inspector asked if I had something dangerous in my bag. Then it went something more like this:
TSA Inspector: "Do you have any firearms, combustibles, or any other hazardous material in your luggage, ma'am?"
Me: "What?"
TSA Inspector: "Do you have anything dangerous in your bag, ma'am?"
Me: "I'm sorry. Can you repeat that?"
TSA Inspector: "Are there any weapons in your bag?"
Me: "............................................................Yes."
Fortunately, my sister heard the question better than I did and was able to cut me off with a nice solid "NO. NO, SHE DOESN'T."

Has anything like this ever happened to you too?

@RichardButler HAHA That's usually how I use my earbuds too. Because I want to listen to loud music, but I still want to hear what's going on around me.
