How Do You Choose Your Facial Cleanser?

Do you choose cleanser based on your skin concern?

I used to generalize the cleanser because I think it makes no difference. All it does is clean your face and the important steps are toning and moisturizing, right?
Truth is, cleanser should carefully selected based on your skin type and concern. For instance, if you have dry skin and acne, you can't use a 2% salicylic acid cleanser. Otherwise, your skin will start to burn and dry out even more. Instead, you should use a mild and calming cleanser to diminish irritated skin.
The process of searching for the right cleanser for your skin can take some trial and errors. I went through a dozen of cleansers and still haven't found the perfect one I can go back to more than two repurchase. A big reason for that is my skin condition fluctuates with the season.
Since it's summer my main concern is keeping the sebum at bay. I have combination skin and humid weather is my biggest enemy. Though, instead of choosing an oil-control cleanser, a pore care cleanser is a better choice because it deep cleans and unclog pores.
I'll share the difference with some examples next time! I'm just curious how everyone choose their cleanser.

after all my reading and research about face cleansing methods, trying only a few cleansing products and washing my face with soap as often as possible, I have come to realise that all my face needs is just water and moisturizer. I've been trying for years and now my acne is almost cleared up

@TerrecaRiley I also tried that method but my problem my t-zone area especially the nose needs to be deep cleanse and exfoliate weekly to get rid of build-up. I realize if I only wash it with water, the pores get clog easily.

@cindystran Hmm. Maybe I'll try that method out if my current routine doesn't show any positive results. I've been using it after an oil cleanser and then using a water based moisturizer and some aloe vera gel
