Based on a true story.
Memories of Murder is based on the true story of the Korea's first serial murder in history, which took place between 1986 and 1991 in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
The film follows two detectives who try to solve the mystery, but due to many barriers such as the Korean police just wanting to end it and are willing to arrest innocent men just to make their town feel safe again, the crime is never solved.
It stars Song Kang-ho who is in just about every movie and is an incredible look into countryside life in Korea in the past...
(though there are still many instances of violence being covered up like this in the country side by incompetent police)
It also explores the mistreatment and discrimination against Korean people with disabilities.
One character is treated worse than an animal simply because of a mental disability.
Definitely worth the watch, especially if you're interested in crime and mystery.
