South Korean News Update

Que tal peeps!

As we continue with this new theme of the history of Korea I came across some present information. As you all may know North Korea and South Korea always have been in conflict with each other after WWII. So to hear about these two countries having a disagreement is not shocking. I will share some current news about South Korea. This will involve their ongoing conflict with North Korea and touch on how America plays a role in this political affair.

North Korea and South Korea continue to go back and forth and America is involved with these affairs since we are in alliance with South Korea. In March "Pyongyang demanded that Seoul apologises for offending the dignity of the North Korean leadership and publicly executes the officials responsible for a military exercise that simulated an attack on Kim Jong-un's headquarters" (Ryall, 2016). Basically, if Seoul decide not to apologize then North Korea threaten to take some action. In addition to insisting that South Korea apologize North Korea wants the military planners who was over this launch to be executed! North's state media said, "the long-range artillery forces of the Korean People's Army combined unit on the front will move over to merciless military action" (Ryall, 2016). Wow, that sounds like a threat to me. On top of that North Korea has released a propaganda video that implies they want to release a nuclear attack on Washington DC! To see this video click here (Source). The clip ends with saying "If US imperialists budge an inch towards us, we will immediately hit them with nuclear weapons" and an image of a tattered US flag in flames (Ryall, 2016).

Wrap up....

North Korea and South Korea will continue to have beef. Sources say that tensions are getting thicker than before.

But why this tension?

"Korea was one country for a very long time, and in the beginning of the twentieth century, was occupied by the Japanese. After World War II, Korea was liberated, and experienced a power vacuum. The USSR and USA supported different political powers, and did not leave the Peninsula right away amidst the Cold War. Two new governments were created, one democratic (Seoul) and one communist (Pyongyang), and shortly after, North Korea invaded South Korea to unify the country by force" (Source). WWII Divided Korea. The north became Communist and the south was occupied by America. This occupation causing the southern part of Korea to be Democratic. This division occurred at the 38th parallel. The north invaded the south for unification by force. This would set up the stage for The Korean War (1950-1953) began when the North Korean Communist army crossed the 38th Parallel and invaded non-Communist South Korea. This will explain why South Korea seems more modern or more liberal than Noth Korea. Source

North vs South at Night time

These memes show the drastic difference between North and South Korea. These two countries were once one country, but now they have different cultures.
Left side is North Korea and right side is South Korea. This is a picture from a video about a translator made to help North Korean refugees adapt to the South Korean language and culture. You can take a picture of signs and literature in South Korean language and it automatically translates it for North Korean speakers.

Tbh North Korea always threatens people. And this is coming from my cousin who is a marine, he said anything North Korea does to either South Korea or America...They can be overtaken in under 24 hours, since the country is relatively small and not properly armed. Whereas they do have nuclear weapons, they do not have enough to take over two countries. Also, if North Korea attacks it is most likely that Japan would get involved as well and defend Korea.

@KatelynSummerso Japan better get involved! They helped create this mess haha

Yeah I was about to say the same thing. North Korea doesn't have enough military technology to launch an attack on the US. A lot of their threats is just bravado most likely to present this strong front to their citizens so that they don't think about defecting. North Korea is a great study in the lengths a government will go to to disillusion citizens that would most likely run away if they knew the truth.

Well USSR is no more so the only support NKorea has now is China. But also China is more modern then NKorea, so why hasn't NKorea has changed? How much knowledge do they have that will be an advantage against SKorea? More like are there spies that get information for NKorea? How does China feel about NKorea now?
