Who: Reader x Kim Jongdae What: Pain, Love Chapter 8 (This story is loosely based off of 2NE1's music video Go away. I kind of just needed to write it out cause it's in my head but I thought you guys might like it. so enjoy) Story: He was the love of your life until he broke up with you in the most humiliating way. You keep going on with your life trying to live with the pain of working with your ex-boyfriend at the race track and seeing his new girlfriend hanging on his arm. The more you see him the more destructive you become. Right now the only person that can keep you sane is your closest friend Jongdae.
Y/N's POV The crowd chanted in high screams above you. You walked out from the garage heading to your car zipping up your suit. You looked to your side seeing Baekhyun fixing his suit. His pit crew scrambling behind him. He turned his head, seeing you look at him. He visibly inhaled, like he was still nervous to be around you; he gave you a nod as if to wish you good luck. You nodded back as if to say the same then you looked at your car, no longer the vibrant blue you had before now yellow slightly matching your hair. You walked up to the car as the crew moved out of the way and placed your helmet on. You got into the drivers seat, you're heart was racing, your blood was rushing. The adrenaline had already begun to surge through your veins. You felt like this before for every big race, you were ready to give it your all. You drove up to your position looking to the side, seeing Yixing in his car. He nodded to you, you were sure his confident smile was still on his face. You sat at your starting line, remembering what happened two days ago.
Two days ago Jongdae's POV He had pulled his hand away from hers, taking in the idea that she might leave him. It was very clear that she was considering going to Shanghai and why shouldn't she? Sparrow was an international company far bigger than her company, Speed, was right now or might ever be. Still, despite the huge opportunity she was being presented with he still didn't want her to go. He rubbed his face groaning, "So Uh, what are you going to do?" he asked. "Well I'm considering taking it." "Sounds like you've already made up your mind." "Jongdae. Don't do that." she said her voice sounding hurt. He leaned back in his chair and looked around. He wasn't going to make a scene but his heart was racing and his head hurt. She was already considering leaving, he knew it because he knew her. "Ok, well think about this for a second Y/N we haven't been separated from each other since we met. Aside from me going on tour and that was only a few months." "I know Jongdae but this is a really big opportunity for me. A second ago you seemed like you were rooting for me what changed?" "A second ago I didn't think you'd be leaving the country." "But Jongdae I haven't even decided yet." she said. "Haven't you?" "No. I haven't. Look even if I said yes my contract with Speed doesn't end for another few months I could change me mind." "Yeah. You could." He sighed leaning back in his chair. They sat in silence until the waiter came to take their order but once he was gone they were back to being awkward. She was tapping her fingers on her glass only looking down and not up at him. He knew he'd made her upset but how was he supposed to be excited when the woman he loved was contemplating moving to Shanghai for a year. "Look I'm sorry Y/N it's just... if you do go and take the job for an entire year I'm without you." She leaned back and sighed, "I'm sorry. I'll tell them no." she said. He didn't like the look in her eye, like she felt she was forced to do something she didn't want to do. They had eaten in silence but she didn't seem to have an appetite. He dropped her back off at work and she only muttered a simple thank you and a goodbye. He'd ruined her mood so quickly and he regretted it. He came back to the house later on to see Chanyeol and Jongin playing video games in the living room. When he walked in, they said hi to him but he only waved and headed into the kitchen. "You're not going to say hi back?" Jongin said teasing but his eyes were still glued to the TV screen. "I waved didn't I?" he responded irritated. "Ooh someone's got some attitude today. We should call Y/N over to straighten him out." Chanyeol joked jabbing his elbow into Jongin's side. Jongin just laughed as they continued. After Jongdae had swallowed down the drink he'd just taken a sip from, he said, "You better get her over here while she's still in Korea." "What's that supposed to mean?" Jongin asked. "She was offered a job in Sparrow." Chen answered. Chanyeol quickly pressed pause on the game and looked at him standing in the kitchen. His eyes were open wide as he said, "Wait what?" "She's considering the offer." "Why is she considering, she should've said yes right away. Do you know how well they train their drivers? Their practice tracks alone take millions of won to create. They have their own personal team to design the most difficult tracks to race, ever. Sparrow is an international company this is an amazing offer she'd love it there why would she be considering it?" Chanyeol rambled off. "Part of the contract requires their employees to take a full year of training in Shanghai." "Whoa." Jongin said. "She's kind of pissed at me. She said she'd turn them down but I think she'll take it anyway. I can't believe she'd just leave me. I know her, she's going to take that job anyway." Jongin sighed, "Okay I'm going to say something you're not going to like but you need to hear anyway. Hyung... you need to let her take this job." he said. "What?" he said taken a back. "Y/N's pretty much been in love with you since middle school; she's spent practically her entire life with us, mainly you. I think you're so scared of being so far away from her that you just convinced her out of something she really needs." Jongdae explained. "Well, I mean she's still contracted to Speed for another two months and she's enjoyed working with them for so long does she really need Sparrow?" he tried to reason. He didn't want her to go, why was that so wrong? "Sparrow is way more high profile than Speed could ever be. Sparrow could boost her career ten times faster in two months by her just signing her name on the dotted line than Speed could ever do in two years. Hasn't she always wanted to be seen as the greatest female driver? Sparrow is the company that could help her accomplish that." Chanyeol said. "Not to mention she's gotta work along side Baekhyun, getting out of Speed and even out of Korea for a while may just help her get over him." Jongin said. "She said she's done with him." Jongdae said. "Well yeah she's done with him, as in his rude comments and constant torture, but that doesn't mean she's over him. Don't get me wrong, she loves you, I know, but her and Baekhyun just broke up. Five days of hell doesn't get rid of two years worth of memories she spent with someone else. People don't just fall out love like that it's a gradual decent. In just five days, she's been through so much. Three of those days was spent drinking herself to death and getting slapped by Baekhyun." Jongin said. "I still haven't held a decent conversation with him since I found out." Chanyeol said still ashamed that it happened. "Neither have I. Anyway, the end result is that she changed herself completly and confessed that she loved you. She still hasn't had time to deal with her break up, everything is happening so fast. I promise you if you don't let her let him go first it's only going to back fire on the both of you later. Let her take the break from the emotional rollercoaster and when you two come back together make a fresh start. I know you don't want to wait but you have to look at it from her perspective, if she stays at Speed not only is she going to see Baekhyun everyday, making it harder for her to move on, but she might also regret saying no to Sparrow and will always wonder what if. Do you really want to be the reason she asks that?" "You'd be no better than me if you did." a voice came from the opposite side of the room. Everyone looked at Baekhyun, he had walked in the house from the back door. He looked like hell, his hands were in his pockets and he was looking down at the floor. He looked up at Jongdae for a second, "I really did love her but I was selfish, putting myself before her. She's a good girl and if you can't look past you're own selfish desires then you'll be the same as me. You'll ruin her too and she deserves better than that. If you're going to repeat my actions, she doesn't deserve either of us." he said. He yawned as he kicked himself off the wall and walked down the hall back to his room. Of all people to say something like that to him, it had to be Baekhyun, but that was probably the reason he'd heard him loud and clear. He watched him leave curious as to why Baekhyun was pushing him towards her but then made his way back out the door. "Wait let us come with you!" Chanyeol said jumping off the couch. "Then hurry up." Jongdae called back. Y/N's POV You told Jongdae you'd refuse the company's offer but you still weren't sure it was a good idea. Jongdae was right though, you two had never been separated for more than a few months and that was because of his tours. You recalled the conversation with Yixing's manager and how he said you would be put to the test. You'd have to stay focused and they basically tried to limit your free time as much as they could. Jongdae may not even notice after a while, he'd be too busy going around singing. You could make a concert when he came to China or something. You were trying to figure out what you wanted to do. You really wanted to join Sparrow, the very idea of being in their company made you have an adrenaline rush. You kept flipping the card Yixing gave you through your fingers, what were you going to do? You and Jongdae had just recently said 'I love you' to each other and you couldn't just walk away from that. You couldn't just walk away from this offer either. You sighed looking at the number on the back. The manager suggested you call Yixing and ask him any further questions, he agreed that a racer speaking to a racer may ease your mind. You dialed the number you'd written on the back, a Chinese greeting meeting your ear, "Mr. Zhang it's Y/N." you said. You heard a chuckle come form his side of the phone. "Well I must say, I didn't expect you to make up your mind so quickly. Or did the manager give you my number for some other reason?" "Your confidence makes me believe you're very skilled in talking people away from their companies." Y/N you said slightly regretting the call already. He laughed again, "I've had enough experience to know when I've made the deal. The company's reputation speaks for itself, everyone knows Sparrow." "Yeah well I haven't given you the okay yet. I still haven't made up my mind." "Oh really, then why are you calling me?" His cocky, yet sweet tone made you hesitate. Why had you called him? You sighed, "The manager said that during my training year I wouldn't have a lot of free time on my hands." "Yeah that's right, they train you hard and Sparrow is the kind of company that expects results or gets rid of you." "Oh so no pressure there, thanks."You said sarcastically. He laughed again, you were getting used to that sound it was kind of cute, it suited him. His smile was charming but it wasn't like Chen's. When Jongdae smiled, you swore the whole world lit up. He could power an entire city with energy his smile gave off. That's why you had always loved him. "So what's this all about anyway, having boyfriend troubles?" "I don't have a boyfriend." Technically it wasn't a lie, you and Jongdae hadn't made anything official yet which was probably for the best. "It's just- there's someone important to me here and I want to take this job but I wanted to be able to reassure him that he could talk to me anytime." "Well sorry I couldn't help you out on that one." "It's alright you gave me what I was looking for." "Y/N a word of advice. You've only had a sample of the racing world with Speed, it only gets harder and more competitive from here. If you have some hesitation now, all because of a guy, you should do yourself a favor and forget about the offer. We need people that will be focused." "Don't you peoples have lives?" you said irritated. "We keep personal and professional business separate as should you. Besides its only a year, it's not like we're asking you to spend your life in Shanghai, hell even I wouldn't do that." "Are you telling me that I can have my cake and eat it too?" "It's your cake do whatever the hell you want with it. No one should have so much power over you though, that you can't make this decision for yourself. If you want the job take it and if your 'cake' is smart...he'll stay good for you. " "Thank you Mr. Zhang." You said smiling warmly through the phone. "Yixing." he corrected. He finally succeeded in getting a chuckle from you. "Goodnight Yixing." you said. "Goodnight Y/N." You hung up the phone and you got up off the couch to head to bed until you heard a knock at the door. You asked who was it but there was no answer. You hated when people did that. You grabbed a bat and held it behind the door. When you cracked it open you saw Jongdae. He smiled at you and said, "Can we come in?" "We?" you asked. Suddenly, two faces poked from either side of the door. Jongin and Chanyeol were both smiling at you and waving. They had bags in their hands like they came over for a party. You weren't tired anyway so you allowed them to come in. Jongdae waited for them to walk past you two before he kissed you quickly and said, "I'm sorry about earlier, I think you should take the offer." "What?" you said surprised "It's a huge opportunity for you and I don't want to hold you back. You should take the job." You looked at him stunned and he kissed you again then brought you into your living room to hang with the guys. You all had fun, laughing and playing games together, you told stories and talked about the guys songs. The night was long but it got to the point where Jongin and Chanyeol were ready to sleep. Jongdae sent them home with his car because you said he could use yours tomorrow and you'd take your bike to work. After they had left, Jongdae turned to you, "I love you Y/N." he said. "I love you too my Chenie Chen Chen but what changed your mind about the job?" "Something Baekhyun said to me." "Baekhyun?" "Yeah it shocked me too but he had a point. I can't put my selfish desires in front of your dreams. I don't want to go. I want you by my side forever but I also don't want you to one day look at me and hate me for pressuring you into staying." "I couldn't hate you even if I wanted to." you said. He had smiled at you then pressed his lips to yours first, starting off gently and slowly until he made the kiss deeper. His hand reaching for your butt, you could feel him press himself into you and noticed he's was getting turned on. You pulled away from him to say through slight pants, "Bed room?" "I don't think there's time." Jongdae said. He took your hand grabbing you and pulling you down on the couch, making your release a girlish shriek before he got on top of you.
*Present* Now, you looked at the starting line. The roars of the audience even louder. The commentators voice in the background. You decided what you'd do already. Your entire body ready to put the petal to the medal. Your heart pounding and your hands gripping the steering wheel. The lights started: Red, Yellow, Green. Go!
