Pope Francis is taking a much more open position on gay rights than his absolutist predecessor. He was quoted as saying "If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" He also attracted attention by carrying his own bag onto the plane. When asked what he was carrying, he replied: "The keys to the atomic bomb weren't in it." Good to see a leader with a sense of humor taking a more progressive position! Although, he reaffirmed the Catholic church's refusal of female priests.
