Buzzfeed: What Darker Skinned People Will Never Tell You...

Que tal peeps!

WARNING! This video may be sensitive to some ppl.

This video to me was very interesting. I live how they spoke about being a darker skin tone in all races not just African American. Honestly, every where some one deals with the societal issues of having darker skin. I know in my family we are mixed in come in all shades, so within the family I never seen colorism. But outside I was often questioned how could mi abulea be mi abulea since she is Mexican and I have a deeper complexion (even though she is a darker Mexican woman). Or why my cousins and I look a like facial wise but are different shades of brown or why I had long wavy hair with deep brown skin and my cousin had coil like short hair but she was toffee colored. Outside of our home my family and I felt with this issues. I remember someone thought I was Eastern Indian when I was in college. They could not understand why I had long hair and how I got into a private college. They said Indian kids were smart so I must be Indian not African-American. When I told them I identified as a Black Latina then that really confused them. But even people who are from Latino community or Asian community deal with these light skin vs dark skin issues. May ppl don't know this. But you see skin whiting creams advertised in Africa, Asian, and now it's trending in America! Kpop I love but they do uphold light skin and even still in American culture. Personally, as the new generation coming up we need to learn from the mistakes of the older generation. Colorism is one thing we need to end. A person's character should not be based upon the tone of their skin, but the actual person.

I'm tagging all my peeps cuz I think yall can handle this video. If not your cup of tea sorry in advance.

This video is very very very true. I personally am really white, but I live in Rhode Island in a relatively Puerto Rican, Columbian and African American city, and even the dark kids make fun of other darker kids. Im also made fun of for being white as I was the ONLY 'white' person in my class at all. I remember there was this really dark kid in class and one day kids said 'Hey Steff' (that's my name) 'Ambdoul is your slave and you're the slave master' Like WTF. That really irritated me to the point because it was rude towards me and the kid. Another time on a feild trip we passed big fields and one of the girls said 'Hey Ambdoul look its your plantation' and everyone laughed except me and my friends. Because me personally being the only 'white' person knows how it feels to be discriminated against for being light skinned. But I'm sorry. NOBODY should go up to someone and tell them they found their plantation, that's plain out disrespectful and disgusting for the person to even say. 'White' people also get hate, I'm French, Canadian, Native American and Chinese. The kids in my class won't shut up its either I get good grades only because I'm white or I'm stereotyped into the classic white person 'nerdy' type and it truly sucks and hurts to constantly be called names. So I understand.
This made me cry a bit. I'm light, my sister is a darker brown, since we're mixed race babies, and I can't think of having her go through all that discrimination for her skin tone, which honestly, I find very attractive and beautiful. I see darker tones of skin as a symbol of strength and resilience even from a young age, because I'm exposed to beautiful people of colour with hearts of gold almost everyday where I live, my dad included.
I love my blended family. We are like Cold Stone Creamery - just toss in a little bit of this and this and 🎉poof🎉 a brand new flavor for your ear. We come in every shade and hair texture. And we love each other like mad. We just want crawfish and zydeco for a bon temp fais do do (good time party). We are first and foremost as all people, beings. We respect and love each other they way beings should - there is only one race - human. We all learned that in Junior High. 👬👭👫Unity. 💙 Love. ✌ Peace. @baekyeol27 Wow. SMDH. And we keep saying this generation is different. What are we really sending kids to school for? We aren't showing them the truth and how to be better versions of themselves; how to understand and decipher the 'isms and eliminate 'isms. Saddened to read you had to experience that...maybe the Universe allowed that in your space to use you as an agent for change. Props to you for knowing that what they were saying to you was hurtful and unkind and improper. We will make a difference. Namastè.
@Baekyeol27 thanks for ur comment.
This is a great video and it's very inspiring!

The Role of Online learning during the covid-19 pandemic
The covid-19 pandemic shook the entire world-impacting many businesses and organizations. The education sector is also one of the industries that are hit by this pandemic. With the nationwide lockdown, all the schools, colleges, and universities were instructed to shift to online learning overnight. While many of the teachers did not have the skill to teach online, similarly students were also having difficulties facing this situation. The sudden shift to online learning brought the use of online learning platforms which was gaining importance in the education sector. Before the covid-19 pandemic, learning platforms were mostly used by students who were pursuing distance education. However, with no other option left during the pandemic, all the educational institutions were forced to conduct online learning and teaching. This further led to the use of learning platforms in the education industry. From the teacher’s point of view, the entire situation was very overwhelming for them as they did not have the experience of handling technology. They lacked the digital skills to conduct a successful online class. However, as the covid-19 situation is getting worse, educational institutions are still shut down to prevent the spread of diseases. This means online education will remain with us for a quite long time now. It can be said that teachers are slowly getting used to creating study materials, courses, and other educational materials through online learning platforms for their students. They are learning to keep their students focused and engaged in their class by creating innovative educational content. Technology if utilized properly can work wonders for you. The same thing happened with online learning. Educational institutions did not realize its potential until the outbreak of this pandemic. With the help of online teaching platform, teachers can find a way to teach their students who are willing to learn online. They can create many courses, educational materials with the help of online tools provided by the teaching platforms. This is a feasible alternative for them to earn money from their home while making the most of their teaching. Talking about students, the most challenging part for them was to stay active and engaged in their learning. Many students get distracted and have a small attention span when it comes to learning online. However, with the proper use of these online learning platforms, they can stay engaged and participate in their learning. What are the benefits of online learning for Students? There are many benefits of online learning which we are going to discuss below. Learn anytime and anywhere- Students can learn anytime and anywhere with the help of online learning platforms and the internet. There is no fixed time and location when it comes to learning online so it removes the barrier of commuting to the physical classroom. Access to various study materials- There is unlimited access to study materials that you will find when learning online. The most important part is that there are a lot of varieties in the study materials like presentations, videos, audios, etc which makes learning more interesting for students as they need not simply mug up the concepts from the same old books. Learn from Expert Educators- When students learn online, they find many subject matter experts and mentors who are ready to teach them. The best part is that they can easily find guidance for their exams in an online approach without having to search them constantly. Game-Based Learning- Game-based learning makes online learning more fun and interactive. Much social learning network have already started implemented game-based learning and in turn, are getting good responses. Personalized Learning- Personalized learning is where teachers teach their students one-on-one as per their learning pace and need. Students can indulge in personalized learning which will help them to understand their concepts more precisely. Online Learning platforms are Economical- Students can make the most of their learning by joining online learning platforms which are highly economical. Hence, they can opt for online learning without having to invest a heavy amount of money. The Education market witnessed a jump in E-learning. According to many online reports, it is estimated that the online learner base in India will reach 9.6 million by the end of 2021. Not only this but India now ranks second in the world after the U.S for its Edtech Market. These figures show the positive response to online learning. On the other hand, online learning cannot be fully implemented in the education sector. Factors such as no access to the internet, network connectivity issues, poverty, etc hinder the growth of online learning. For time being as educational institutions have no option, they need to carry online learning. However, in the future, a blended approach will be much feasible in the education sector. It is where the mixture of both online as well as offline learning will be brought to use. This approach would be very effective as students can learn offline as well as online with some control over their learning like the place, time, etc. To conclude, we can say that online learning is very helpful and effective for students. With the use of Edtech, many educational institutions will be able to engage students in their learning. The pandemic has completely changed the educational landscape however online learning is the need of the hour and students must embrace it in order to continue their learning.
5 Skin Treatments That Make You Look Young Forever
You may feel young at heart and ready to conquer the world. But what if your skin doesn't look the part? Here are the top 5 treatments that keep you looking ageless and ready to take on the world... 1. Chemical Peels A chemical peel is a cosmetic treatment that removes the top layer of your skin. This can help minimize wrinkles, dullness, hyperpigmentation. A chemical peel procedure involves application of a liquid on the face, which is later wiped off. A light chemical peel improves skin texture and tone and lessens the appearance of fine wrinkles. The results are subtle but increase with repeated treatments. If you have a medium chemical peel, treated skin will be noticeably smoother. 2. Botox The Botulinum toxin is primarily used in the Botox Treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other facial lines. Botox injections are performed with a tiny eyelash like needle and a virtually painless. The treatment is FDA approved and results are visible within 3 days. You will need to repeat the treatment after 3-5 months if you wish to maintain the wrinkle-free look. 3. Dermal Fillers Dermal fillers are used for cosmetic purposes and are meant to give volume and fullness to your skin. This treatment reduces the most common signs of aging such as facial wrinkles and skin folds. Most women use dermal fillers to make themselves look younger. Dermal fillers procedure involves small injections of hyaluronic gel to support and volumize sagging areas of the face. 4. Microdermabrasion Microdermabrasion can help improve skin appearance by reducing fine lines, early sun damage, and mild, shallow acne marks. It is not useful for deep acne scars or deep wrinkles. Skin may become noticeably smoother even after one treatment and better absorb moisturizers. The procedure involves gentle sand blasting your skin with aluminium oxide crystals. 5. Ultherapy Ultherapy is a nonsurgical alternative to a facelift. It is the only FDA-cleared, non-invasive procedure that lifts the neck, chin and brow and improves lines and wrinkles. The results from Ultherapy® generally last two years. The treatment produces new collagen, but even with natural collagen regeneration, the skin continues to age. Areas of focus for the treatment included brow, neck and jawline. Most of these treatments a re FDA approved and all of them are completely safe. Visit your dermatologist today, to find out which anti aging treatments are right for you!
Top 6 Summer Must-Haves for Every Sweaty Girl
Well, summer is not my favorite season. There are certain skin infections that usually happen if you don’t take care of your skin properly if you are a sweaty girl. Hence, these products become a necessity to have in your daily routine to stay fresh and safe. 1. Sunscreens This is a very important and basic must-have for summer for every girl, no matter what skin type or tone you have. Sunscreens protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays. Not only that, the major benefit that you’re going to get from sunscreen is that your skin will be protected from Skin cancer. Even if you are staying home these days, don’t miss out on applying sunscreen as it protects our skin from the blue rays radiated through our mobile phones, laptops, and TV screens. Otherwise, they can cause major damage to our skin. 2. Rosewater Spray Our skin feels tired and fatigued really soon in summers. And it is really annoying and irritating to wash our face, again and again, to feel refreshed. Instead, you can keep rosewater spray with you all the time to refresh your skin instantly. It makes your skin feel relaxed and calm and really cools down the internal heat. 3. Antiperspirants During summers, we tend to sweat a lot. To control your sweat, you can use antiperspirant in your armpits. They prevent sweating. Antiperspirants are very different from deodorants. Deodorants make you get rid of the odor while antiperspirants control your sweating. You can buy amazing quality antiperspirants, which are clinically protected from sites like eBay. 4. Aloe Vera Gel You can use aloe vera gel as a lubricant all over your face whenever you shave your face. It acts great as a lubricant. Also, it is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. This soothes and calms your skin to a great extent. Aloe vera gel can also be used as a part of post skincare regime. It can be applied post-shaving your hands and legs and it will make sure that your cuts won’t turn into an infection if any. 5. Anti-Fungal Powder You can use this whenever your skin has any sort of itching, skin irritation, redness, fungal infection, or any pricky heat issue. You can use this under your arms, on your back, on your neck, between your thighs, on your elbows, knees, and all the areas where you feel excessive sweat. I would suggest you apply this powder between your thighs before the workout to prevent itching, redness, and irritation. 6. Setting Spray Whenever you apply make-up in summer, do not forget to apply the setting spray. It makes the make-up last longer on your face and makes it settle properly. You can even dance at weddings in summer and don’t lose your make-up at all if you have applied the setting spray. Make sure you invest in a good quality setting spray. So, these are some must-have recommended products for all the sweaty girls out there. I’m sure that these products will make your life much easier. So, get them for yourselves!
Ask An Afro-Latina!!
Have you ever had any questions about a different culture, but was afraid to ask? Well fear is the foundation to a bland society. I was inspired by a friend of mine @kpopandkimchi. She's doing a card called asked a Korean. If you want you should check out her card. Basically, this card is the vehicle for diversity, culture, and education. Here is a link to the card @primodiva93 made. You should check it out! If have any questions to ask me or mis amigas @alywoah, @LAVONYORK, or @primodiva93 about being a Latina...especially an Afro-Latina then comment below on our cards. I'm first on deck to make a card for your questions. Then the ladies will male their card. I will update mine with links to their cards once they make them. BYE BYE TO THE DRAMA! PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL WHEN ASKING QUESTIONS. WE WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT BEING AN AFRO-LATINA AND ABOUT THE LATIN CULTURE. COMMENT AWAY BELOW! When I tell people I'm Afro-Latina or Black Latina I usually get the same odd reaction. Which is fine to an extent. I know some people get confused since society has taught people that Latinos have light or slightly tan skin. Basically, look like Jennifer Lopez lol smh. Here are some FAQ'S that I get.... 1. So what is an Afro-Latina? 2. You still Black right? 3. Are you Hispnaic, Latin, or Black? 4. You speak Spanish right? 5. Latino or Hispanic? Which one is right? 6. How Smoking Ruins Your Skin and Hair
If there only one lifestyle change that you will make to look younger, quit smoking. Smoking affects your skin and hair in many negative ways. Read on to find out how... How Smoking Damages your Skin and Hair When you smoke, the nicotine in the tobacco reduces the amount of blood that is flowing to your skin. The toxins also affect collagen and elastin production, which in turn affect the elasticity of your skin. This makes the skin sag and droop, giving you an aged appearance. Tobacco smoke contains 4000 other chemicals besides nicotine. And most of them trigger the break down of collagen and elastin. These are the fibers that give your skin its supple and glowing appearance. Smoking or even being around a friend or partner who smokes destroys the building blocks of your skin. Apart from your facial skin your lips also become darker in colour. This lip hyperpigmentation is also called as 'smoker's lips'. It can begin immediately after you start smoking cigarettes or other tobacco products. Smoking damages DNA, which can also affects your hair follicles. It damages the hair at the root and negatively affects the hair growth cycle. This causes early greying and hair loss. What You can do to Reverse the Damage Your skin recovers its elasticity when you stop smoking. It will also be smoother, making it more pleasant to look at and touch. Your skin complexion will become visibly brighter in the first few weeks after you stop smoking. After six months, your skin will regain its original vitality. Start an antioxidant supplement that contains N-acetyl cysteine, glycine, glutamine, vitamin C, vitamin E, resveratrol and astaxanthin. Antioxidants are free radical scavangers that reduce the oxidative stress caused by smoking. Start using retinol in your nightly skin care routine. Retinol is a powerful antioxidant and it boosts collagen repair. It is one of the holy grail ingredient when it comes to skin tightening and anti aging treatment. Explore cyclical vitamin therapy to control hair loss and boost hair re-growth. Cyclical vitamin therapy contains as many as 100 ingredients which are needed for healthy hair and treatment of hairloss. Pick an under eye cream containing chrysin, vitamin K and kojic acid to reverse dark circles caused by smoking. Try a DIY lip balm containing ghee and beets to lighten your lips and restore their pink colour.
