Admiral Nelson, one of the most respected historical figures in the UK, decisively defeated the (Napoleon's) French Navy at the Battle of Trafalgar off the coast of Spain in 1805. He was, however, mortally wounded during battle. In order to preserve his body until it reached London, they transported it first in a rum mixture, and then transferred the body into a lead-lined coffin filled with wine. He was given a state funeral and is currently buried in St. Paul's Cathedral, London. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horatio_Nelson,_1st_Viscount_Nelson#Return_to_England_3
